I have a semi auto pistol with an alloy frame and steel slide. I have blasted the frame in preparation for coating and have a question. If I leave the frame blasted with no finish would it be reasonable to blast the steel pieces and expect to protect them from corrosion with oil only? I wouldn't expect this piece to ever get wet. I would of course coat the slide? I did blast the de-cocker and it matched the alloy nicely. Are there any reasons not to leave the alloy unfinished? Thanks, Ken

I've found that Eezox works much better than oil on unfinished steel parts. It's dry to the touch, no oil film.

I have concluded that this is a bad idea for a number of reasons. Rust, rust and a fingernail will mar the unfinished alloy. You guys can stop biting your tongues now. Ken

DuraCoat clear would give you excellent results. You need to coat it immediately after blasting, however.
