I know some of you probably saw this auction laughed and moved on, but this isn't a bad rifle, aside from the stock.
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=230604193

I need some help with the year of manufacture. The serial number is 570798. I removed the red acrylic spacers and was surprised that I could still see two of the serial numbers. That told me that the stock was not cut to much, sanded flat. The forend number is 572942, replaced? The bluing on the receiver is thin, but 80% or better on the barrel. Except for the wood screws, none of the other screws are burred from crappy screwdrivers. It is not d&t'ed. I think I did OK for $290. I'll keep my eyes open for an EG Stock that is not to pristine. While waiting does anyone have an EG stock that is broken beyond repair around the tang, hell it can be cut off at the pistol grip? I think I can make a temporary reair that looks better than a recoil pad. Here are some pics I took last night.

Get rid of the space on the pistol grip cap, put on a new buttplate, and I think you got yourself a nice range/field gun. Nice that they didn't cut extra off the buttstock, got a couple of mine that are now 1/2" short or so with a replacement buttplate.

You could use one of the aluminum Savage logo butt plates that showed up in the '60s and it wouldn't look too badly out of place.

Good score I would say.

Spacers were gone 2 minutes after the pics. The original cap went back in place and snugged up just fine. Good idea on the aluminium buttplate. I'll start looking for one.

I think you made an excellent deal. Last year I was at a Gunshow and a Dealer wanted $180. for a stripped receiver!

Thanks guys! Can anyone help me with the date of manufacture? I'm thinking between 1950-1952. I have not looked at the lever boss code.

That should be a 1950 rifle, look for an LBC ending in B.
