Get rid of the space on the pistol grip cap, put on a new buttplate, and I think you got yourself a nice range/field gun. Nice that they didn't cut extra off the buttstock, got a couple of mine that are now 1/2" short or so with a replacement buttplate.

You could use one of the aluminum Savage logo butt plates that showed up in the '60s and it wouldn't look too badly out of place.
Good score I would say.

Spacers were gone 2 minutes after the pics. The original cap went back in place and snugged up just fine. Good idea on the aluminium buttplate. I'll start looking for one.

I think you made an excellent deal. Last year I was at a Gunshow and a Dealer wanted $180. for a stripped receiver!

Thanks guys! Can anyone help me with the date of manufacture? I'm thinking between 1950-1952. I have not looked at the lever boss code.

That should be a 1950 rifle, look for an LBC ending in B.
“ The Savage 99 Pocket Reference”. All models and variations of 1895’s, 1899’s and 99’s covered. Also dates, checkering, engraving.. Find at www.savagelevers.com
