Anybody got pics of their shifters? I've seen the biguns, are there any that are kinda small and svelte like?

Here is another one from Karl, also the Campfire knob, I have one he did on my LVSF 7mm-08 also but I don't have any pics yet of that one. I like them alot, perfect size IMHO.

Here's one Karl did for me that's a little different. I'm planning on sending him my .308 to add the same shifter to.

appears most of these would dig in your back while carrying a rifle on a shoulder sling, i often find the factory one sticking me,,, i do like the camfire knob the best of any i have seen,,,,

So would someone enlighten me. Is the purpose of the gargantuan bolt knob to overcome sticky bolt lift from hot loads?

supposedly, they are easier to work from the prone position, and give your hand more leverage to work the bolt resulting in less effort to lift the handle resulting in less "tilting" of the rifle resulting in faster bolt work, resulting in faster follow up shots... ????????? if that makes sense...

It doesn't to me...but I like the way they look and I suspect that's the root cause of most of these things.

Not sure I would want more leverage on a 2 pc bolt handle, over on SH there sure seems like there are alot handles that get seperated from the bolts, not sure if it is related but big shifters are pretty popular with the tactical crowd!

I did mine for better feel with gloves..

It works, but I don't know if it was worth it enough to me, cost/benefit wise, to do with another hunting rifle.

I personally would not go any larger than a Camfire knob, If I was going to change out the factory knob...but to each his own!

Any one have one like the Surgeon RSR actions have or the Borden actions? Look to be longer but not as fat around. Thinking of trying one of these. Any opinions?

A bigger bolt handle does help with cycling, within reason. I find it much better than the checkered mini-knob found on factory Rem 700s, though I wouldn't want a very large knob because it could interfere with scope mounting, or hang up on things when carrying the rifle.

Here's AZ Precision's "marksman" knob which is a medium sized knob that is just big enough to be usable but not so large as to interfere with operation of the gun or scope:
