I bought a M70 Winchester in this caliber a few years ago and put a 6x36 Leupold with LR dots on it. So far I've only fired 12 factory-loaded rounds.

I'm thinking of taking it on a deer hunt in Canuckistan this fall and thought the 140-grain Accu-Bond would be a good place to start.

Does anybody have any experience with this round on big game and any loads they'd like to share?

I have not killed anything yet with my 270 wsm, my best load is 57 gr of RL 17 behind the nosler 150 gr partition, my best group so far measures .569. I am using winchester cases and winchester magnum primers.

I have a Sako 75 in 270 WSM. I have settled on a max charge of RL-17 and 130 grain BT or Accubond. I have also used IMR4350 with good results. Both of these loads will shoot .5 or slightly better.

I have tried several others powders but RL17 and IMR4350 are the go to powders.

I have a Win. Extreme Weather, .270 WSM. I've finally decided on the load I'm gonna use but haven't shot anything yet with it. Right now, I'm using 69.5 grs. of Retumbo and a 150 Partition seated about 0.020" off the lands and get 3210 fps. CAUTION: this load is about 1/2 gr. under max. in the books I've found so work up. I have to get it sighted in & check points of impact at 2 & 300 yds. Once I get that, I'm gonna load 150 NorthForks for normal use. I'm getting 1" or very close groups with the above load. This is going to be my caribou/sheep rifle and while a PArtition would normally work fine, I think I'd like the NF bullet should we come across a grizzly on one of our juants. In addition, I think I'll use this rifle on our annual moose hunt this year. I'd like to see what it will do on one of them.
Good luck. I think it's a fun rifle to play with.

I have several and have used it on deer. The Ruger 77 I have is very accurate. I was running 130NAB's over 62.5Gr H4831SC, listed at about 3065fps. I was not trying to run it full bore.

Good luck.

There is no accounting for taste.

Experience is a great thing as long as one survives it.

I had one. That particular rifle had some problems so far as feeding. Bolt came messed up, went back to remington, came back better, but then the chamber had burrs that were tearing up brass. I sold it to someone who wanted the action for a project.

It shot ok, would have been a keeper minus the other problems. The most interesting load used a 160 grain partition and a butt-load of MagPro.

My favorite load for my .270 WSM is 70 gr. of MagPro behind a 140 gr. Nosler Accubond. Works great.

Have you chronographed this load? If so, what is the velocity?

Your getting velocities with 150 gr loads that 130 grn loads produce, even 150 factory loads run about 3100 fps. You either have a hot load or your chronograph is off.

I bought some MagPro tonight. According to the Nosler manual that stuff is the cat's pajamas for the .270 WSM.

Freddy:
Last Oct. I chrono'd some 150 gr. Federal Fusion cartridges for the .270 WSM. Chrono was set @ 5 measured yards and the 5 shots averaged an anemic 2962 fps. Little more than I get with my .270 Win. and a 150 Partition. Later that month, I chrono'd another 3 shots, same ammo and velocities were in the 2900's too. I've noticed that when I play with this round in Quickload, it's predictions are generally quite a bit off. QL does good with both my .270 Win. and .338 so I don't fully trust QL.
Maybe you're correct about my chrono being off - I dunno.
Probably should check it out with some competition .22 ammo.
Thanks for the comments.

I have been loading 61g of 4350 with 130g NAB and getting 3150fps and groups from .5-1" at 100yds. Mine is a factory Win 70 that has had a little work done. I really like the cartridge.
Do other notice the barrel gets REALLY hot in these rifles or is it just me?
Mine tends to shoot 2 shots through 1 hole and then throw the 3rd or 4th shot when I group it - is that due to barrel heat?

I use Reloader 25 with the 140 Accubond. Just under 3,200 fps 10' from the muzzle. I've only been able to use it on one Pronghorn but it worked quite well.

Yes the barrel of my M70 fwt gets real hot real quick. Try letting the barrel cool down between shots. It may take several minutes to cool after a couple of shots.

I was getting 3200fps. out of factory Winchester 150gr. Power Points. Each individual rifle will produce different velocities.
