And living in the past is small. But prosperous. I assume you'd poo-poo the philosophy of Jefferson, as well?

If you believe NO ONE will beat obama then you had better be looking at your congress critter. We can nullify anything Obama does by electing the right congress. By the way, I will vote Romney over Obama ANYDAY!! If we stumble on the vote, we WILL get Obama back, even if it means holding your nose while you vote. kwg

Romney will get his ass handed to him in Iowa, just like he did before. He may win NH, but most likely loses again in SC, which usually follows Iowa's lead. It's going to be Tea Party vs. GOP establishment, and that means most likely Bachmann vs. Romney for the nomination (if Palin doesn't get in the game).
There is no way anyone will ever find a candidate that they agree with 100%, but I agree with Bachmann more than I do Romney. I didn't trust him 4 years ago, and I don't now.

I never said or even implied forgetting history but your point is taken. That was then and this is now and what we have now is what we have and needs to be dealt with on that basis,,,is all. Pining, whining and devining over Mr. Reagan's reign ain't getting us where we need to go nor will a redux fix us. The problems (economically) then pale in comparison to the magnitude of that we face today.

So you'd vote for Obama instead? Nope, cast a write in for Paul most likely. I'm not voting for the lesser of two evils any more. Republicans want my vote than give me someone to vote for.

I'll be happy to put my support (and money) behind a winner. Currently, it's like betting on a bullfrog race. My post was more aimed at those like Derby, who piss and moan about the Republican candidate, but don't get involved or vote. Even Romney looks like Goldwater in comparison to Obama. No matter how milquetoast he is, he would not appoint people like Holder or Sotomayer or work overtly to undermine the sovereignty of the country. Been there, done that. Have been more involved than most on here. Once you've been inside the system it's hard to keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome.

I'd like to see Bachmann and somebody like Rubio, Perry, or Cantor. Romney would be better than what we have now but he and Palin would be near the bottom of the list of Republicans I'd like to see.

Well then, I guess it's up to Republicans to put up a viable candidate to beat Obama. Republicans aren't going to win by default with my vote.
Enough is enough.

Just give us both houses of congress and I'll be shickeled titless. Need 60 in the senate.. and we need a real leader for the house. You have to figure in there will always be a few Rhinos that will switch to the wrong side at the last minute.

If repubs controlled both houses?
I read Foxbat as saying Congress has no say in the approval process.

Well the senate does have a say. But the president does pick the nominee. So with the wrong president..were screwed. Because many senators believe that they should approve of any qualified nominee, it most SCOTUS nominees are going to get approved.
Its unlikely that a republican senate is going to block many nominees, however if you want to get a serious rightwing guy through, you will likely need 60 rock solid seats.
The collection of taxes which are not absolutely required, which do not beyond reasonable doubt contribute to public welfare, is only a species of legalized larceny. Under this Republic the rewards of industry belong to those who earn them. Coolidge
