The preferred powder for the .270 Win. is H-4831, either regular or short cut. I7828 is sometimes good with 150 or 160 gr. bullets.

Both IMR and H 4831 proved to be excellent powders for the 130s in my dad's rifle. IMR4350 worked well, but we got more velocity and clover-leafs with the 4831's.

Heck it seems like most 270's are so easy to load for and shoot so well that you could probably get away with a handful of rocks stuffed down the bore.

In my and my brother's ADL's RL22 had been the powder to beat. Put it with the 130 Sierra Pro Hunter or Hornady Interlock and you'll have a great load.

Hmm! Never tried rocks myself. Mayhaps, I should. Prolly would work fine too. laugh laugh

Soak the rocks with nitro first and they'll guarandamteed sure work. Ask swampy if you don't believe me.

I'm thinking back to the powders that have worked well for me in the 270 Win...I never compiled them, but here's what I came up with, saying also that every one of these gave good performance, great accuracy, and velocities normally expected from the cartridge:

4064,RL15, IMR4350, H4350, IMR4831,H4831(two "models"),RL22,7828,MagPro,and RL25.

Mostly I use RL22 and H4831,but recently 7828 has done well and last week we recorded an average of 3090 with the 130 gr bullet and 62 gr in WW cases and Fed 215 primer from a 22" barreled pre 64 M70 FW.

65 gr of RL25 and the old blue 130 gr Barnes XLC has given 3200 fps from a 22" barreled M70 Classic FW.

Did I say this already? smile

The 280 Remington is overbore.

The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

I use VihtaVuori 165 in my .270 Win with 130 grain Nosler Partitions, and I am getting an average of 3120 fps. My .270 is a Winchester M 70 Super Grade with 24" barrel, that I bought in late 1991.When I run out of VV-165,I'll go back to using H-4831SC.

Here is my target, I shot the "bug holes with"

I was doing a clean/cold bore test.

First day, I shot first round high of group with a clean barrel, then I put three in a nice group.
Next day,(dirty cold bore) I put two more rounds in same group. Then I had a Grass Hopper on target checking out the holes. I thought, can I hit that Grass Hopper? As I sent the third round down range, the Hopper went goodby. Thus the brown stuff on the target.

Sportdog: In my Remington 700 Sendero in caliber 270 Winchester I use the wonderful Nosler 130 grain Ballistic Tips.
I have killed numerous Buck Antelope and both Whitetailed Deer and Mule Deer with this combo.
Virtually all of these kills were with one shot - I have also killed one 6x6 Bull Elk with this combo, again a one shot kill!
To get excellent accuracy I use H 4831 SC powder, Federal brass and Federal 210M primers along with the 130 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips.
The Ballistic Coefficient of this projectile is .433!
I have killed Antelope out to 506 Leica lasered yards and several Deer just past 400 yards - most of them on public lands (thus the neccessity of the longer shots).
I highly recommend the Nosler 130 grain Ballistic Tips for use in your 270 on Deer and Antelope.
Best of luck with your new 270.
