Hey everyone, I am interested in picking up a portable shooting bench and have been looking at three different ones: Stukeys shooting bench http://www.shootingbenches.com/order.htmCoyote Jakes shooting bench http://www.coyotejakes.com/or the varmint masters bench http://www.varmintmasters.net/Price/orderbr/orderbr.htm . I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with any of these. I think I like the shape of the tops better on the varmint masters and Stukeys bench than the Coyote Jakes. The other two seem to have a little more table top area. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with either of these benches? They are pricey but I'm planning on starting to shoot alot at our farm and I think it may be a wise investment.....especially since it is portable and I can move it around as needed. Thanks. -lee-

I've got the Varmintmasters bench. It is really nice to shoot off, but it's biggest asset also makes it a PITA. That thing is really heavy, and if you're planning on setting up in different areas for varmint shooting it can be a pain.
Once set up though, it is rock solid.

i will check what brand I have when I get home. It is a really nice bench and I bought it off of Ebay from some guy that I believe was in Montana. I think it was like $140 or so. It is pretty light and breaks down and takes like a minute to set up. And it has a built in seat.

Did they whack you for the shipping yet? I bought a 15x21 canvas tent, complete with poles and had it shipped for less than what Varmintmasters charged me. I'm still a little bitter, if you couldn't tell.
If you didn't get the carry case, I suggest that you do. It's very handy for keeping everything together and for carrying that heavy-assed thing.

CAS.....I did get the case for it but almost didn't because that was very expensive IMO. I sure hope it is worth it. The shipping was around sixty something dollars. The total for the bench/bag/silicon shooting pad/shipping was $890.......that's alot of money for that setup....I sure hope to goodness that it is worth it.

Looks like this is too late for you, but, FWIW to others, we have two different benches. The first one is plywood and steel frame construction, less than $100.00 at local gunshows. It's made by Knothole Designs up here in Wyoming. This one takes a few minutes to set up, The second is steel construction, made by Big Game Treestands in Minnesota. It was $120 delivered from Midway.
Both units have built-in, (on), seats and weigh in between 30 and 40 pounds.
We've used the first one for several years with no problems. Just got the second one last week and haven't shot off it yet. This one sets up in seconds and it is in the back of the pickup now, just waiting for a ride.

I shoot off the tailgate of my truck. It's the most stable portable bench I've found yet.

Yeah, ain't they great? Glad to know somebody else out there uses their pickup for that other intended use. The hood works well, too, as does the toolbox on the back.

OK, now I'm really bent! They shipped your bench to you, all the way in Tennessee for $60!. They charged me $85 to ship it from Oregon to California! I even offered to have one of my trucks stop by and pick it up, since it would be going by anyhow, and they said no.
Maybe the ass reaming I laid on them about the shipping caused them to re-examine their charges.

The hood or bed of my Blazer, I do my best shooting from the prone anyway (NOT THAT PRONE!).

My boys gave me a fold up one for Christmas last year. It is nice and handy but I don't know the brand.
Before that I used my pickup or an ironing board.

I built this one over a dozen years ago. Used idea from a pic in a Cabelas catalog. Legs are from a folding picnic table & the seat legs are from similar, cut down. After several years of use, and as I got older my back wasn't as forgiving, I added 6" to leg length, put on a new top, and man!, what a difference. Weighs in neighborhood of 25-30 lbs, is very sturdy, and a real pleasure to use. Probably wouldn't do for PD hunting & such, but for plinking, scope or ammo testing, informal target shooting, I like it a lot - Original bench - Modified, with longer legs -

I've got one that I bought off a guy at a gunshow in Des Moines, Iowa. It's based on the same principle as the Coyote Jake model except it has a heavy laminate top and a nicely padded seat. It swivels 360 degrees (can also be locked in place) but is very stable for precision shooting.............at least as precise as I am capable of . The legs are adjustable, as is the seat depth, but the construction is steel and not aluminum. I believe the weight contributes to the stability. It cost me $350.00 and has been worth every penny.
