Hi there

Does anyone have some experience with inner guide rods, especially the shimano bx boat inner guide ?

What kind of line can you use with those ?

Thanks for reading.

I've never used one, but I know the Daiwa inner guide rods are fairly popular up here for halibut fishing. As far as line type, pretty much everyone up here has gone to braided lines.

I don't know what the limitations are on the inner guide rods regarding passing knots. I prefer to use a bimini twist and a wind on leader for my conventioal rods, I would imagine such a knot should pass through the inner guide rods.

Thanks, 458 Lott.

I didn't know the correct word in English (braided line) for 'tresse', which I'd like to use with the rod.

Dos the inner treatment of the rod / blank allow to work on a fish with such a line without deterioration of the line, or of the rod ?

'Cause when you 'got a fish to fight, the rod is gowing to bow, so I guess the line runs with permanent contact to the blank during the whole fight.

As I said, I haven't used one, but I have handled them. As far as I know, the rod has an inner sleeve of I'm guessing teflon tubing that the line runs through, so it is not rubbing against the blank. I haven't heard of any problems with the braided line being damaged by the rod liner, I don't know how often the liners need to be replaced. If you compare the surface are of your typical 9-10 guides vs ~1 1/4 meters of the gudeless rods, there is 100's of times difference in area, hence the line isn't putting that much force on the liner.

I don't know how the rods hold up to fish that make long scraming runs like tuna, marlin or sharks. Our larger fish will make a few runs to the bottom, but it's more fighting to get the fish up with a few soundings.

Thanks for that input. That makes sense.

It would be for north sea fishes like european sea bass or cods.

Will you be fishing bait or jigging?

I just got a couple Shimano Trevala jigging rods, and they are very nice rods for 100-400gr jigs.

Regarding boat fishing, it is variable depending on fish conditions: worm baits, jigging lures, streamers train with a pilker, derivating lure ... Shore fishing in the rocks with rapala style lures may occur.
