there is no reason to spend over $300 on binoculars and if you only hunt big game there is no reason to do the same on a scope....with that said, this doesnt necessarily apply to me as i have to try them all out to be sure nothing has changed so i might continue to support my opinionated statement !!

Thinking maybe I don't need a scope at all. Got my first deer rifle back from my BIL last year, a WWII 98K in 8mm with a peep site. Killed a lot MN Whitetails with that one. Took it to the range for old time sake and still found I could put 10 into 6" at 100 yards even with crappy Federal factory loads and an original barrel that looks like a sewer pipe. If I hunt right I can get to within 100 yards. I could save enough in optics to buy whatever rifle I wanted....

If you can't quick detach your scope and fit it through the wound channel, your scope is too big...

Etched vs wire reticles

Illuminated vs non-illuminated

SFP vs FFP

MOA vs MIL

Small eye box vs generous eye box

Hold over reticles or turrets

Shesh....I need to go kill somethin' quick!

What if I have a. 270 with a fixed power scope? Does that make me a super troglodyte?... BTW, I refuse to drink the Kool-Aid....

The difference between Sightron and Leupold.
They buy there glass and internals from the same factory in China.
Sightron orders higher quality stuff and sells it for a lower price than loopie does.

Subdivide the Hunting Optics into two topic groups:
A: anything Leupold related (even remotely).
B: other optic brands. As soon as Leupold enters here, topic is
moved to A.
Just to see how long A fans can stay on their side of the fence.

Here's a fresh one.

Nikon is now offering a custom turret option. This makes them one step closer to pushing lupy out of the american market. They are already nearly matching lupy's warranty and beating them in clarity in the same price range, thats why they had to put so much stock in the redfeild line of budget optics.

-insert evil laugh-

I still think high end Steiners are the best chit...I wish they made spotting scopes. I'll take my Peregrines over anything else I have ever looked through, including the big 3 and Meopta.

I am slowly moving all riflescopes I have to fixed 4X leupys.

I will admit though, I have a Trashco Euroclass (30mm body) that has seriously been a wonderful scope on my 300 Win since I was in high school. Beat that.
