Looking for a new bag for my high country backpacking hunts. Cant do a mummy....I've tried, been through some good ones (Western Mountaineering, etc.). I'm 6ft 220lbs, looking for a rectangular down bag that will take me into the 20 degree range. I use Big Agnes pads (clearview and insulated) depending on conditions. I have'nt stayed current on the new bags so I thought some of you gear gurus could point me in the right direction...Thanks, Ryan

PS....I forgot to mention, thanks in advance but not interested in quilts.

actually jump into a Western Mountaineering 6'6" Badger before you decide no on a mummy

I've got a brand new unused North Face Cat's Meow that is long with a right hand zipper. I just got a new tent and with the door configuration, I need a left hand zipper. I paid $100 for it and will ship it for the same. PM me if you're interested...

Try the Mont Bell Super Stretch bags. I have never slept as good as I have in mine.

Your smaller than I, and I run a WM Kodiak Regular with room left over.

I liked the looks of the Kifaru bags that I saw. Would think that would be a good synthetic choice. Thinking Montbell stretch or big agnes if you don't like mummy feel.

Try a wide Kifaru slick bag or a Montbell first. If you cant do it then the best big rectangular bag i found for the money and the weight is the Cabelas Boundary Waters bags.

We are the same build and the WM Badger is the best i've found!

Thanks for the help. I'll have to look at the badger, I had a 6' WM Alpinelight and it was no fun. I roll around alot and sleep on my side so I like the extra room. I understand the "less air space" the warmer the bag theory but a tight fitting mummy just aint gonna happen. I miss the old days of a cheap coleman bag...no pad.... and no tent cause it never rained :-)

Since you already have the BA pads you might want to look at the BA "Lost Ranger" 15 degree bag.

Were about the same size and I really like mine.

I'm a "roll around and sleep on my side some" person as well. BA 'Lost Ranger' has been good to me as well.

Added a silk liner that I hop in (keeps the bag clean too) and its helped me stay warmer.

I'm 6'1" and 257lbs it's the lost ranger all the way for me! I also roll around alot and sleep mainley on my sides and I love my BA lostranger.

Feathered Friends makes rectangular down bags with or without a hood. Their stuff is in the Western Mountaineering price range and quality range. Good stuff. Like Western Mountaineering, they'll sew up custom sizes, extra fill whatever your heart desires.

Grab that WM Badger in the classifieds. 66/67 inch shoulder if I recall correctly...They dont come much bigger than that.

I recently bought a Montebel Ultra light spiral bag in long. I Got the 15 degree model and it is the most comfortable bag I have ever slept in. Super light, comfortable and warm. Used it at 50 degrees and then again in the 30s and it was great both times.

I've got the Western Mountaineering Sycamore MF. It's semi-rec & has all the room I need & I sleep as you describe. It is good to 25degrees (I've used it down to 15 & it's been plenty warm) & the long is good to 6'6" w/ some room to spare.
