I love round nose bullets. I have been championing them for a while, but no one takes me seriously I think. Which is fine - the bullets stay on the shop shelf until I get round to buying them.
The end result on red deer can be absolutely devastating with a heavy round nose bullet. And I have found the Hornady interlock RN bullets in both a .30/06 and 7x57 to be startlingly accurate.

Bingo. I used to snavel all the Speer RN bullets that went on sale because all the experts wanted spire point bullets to shoot 95% of their animals inside 150 yards. Shrewd.

When truth is ignored, it does not change an untruth from remaining a lie.
OK, Ive been working on some "pet" loads for my model 70 last few weeks with 180 Hornady SPs, today i did some verifying tests with 48.5grs RE15, 57grs H4350 & 57grs 4000MR(Alliant)used CCIBR primers & Rem brass shooting at 100yds. Im not done with the 4000MR powder just yet even though it shot those 3 shots in just over 7/8", maybe Ill drop it a half grain and see what I get, or just load more of the 57grs and try again, the 57grs seems to have the velocity edge, albiet by just a nudge, that is if by hitting higher and a bit more right means a higher speed.
Sorry for the delayed follow up. (30-06 load) 200gr nosler partion, 57gr IMR 4831, rem brass, 215m fed primer The load came form a speer number 7 manual, it disapeared from their books with the number 12 manual. I started shooting this load with my hunting partner about 1986. My rifle is a steyr model M prohunter with the Cycolac (plastic) stock, 23.5" barrel, and detachable mag. The load crony's just shy of 2700 fps, groups around 3/4". In this gun there are no pressure signs and my hunting partner shoots the same load in a rem custom shop 700 Ks mountian rifle, without signs of pressure. Have reloaded the brass upto 6 times. The 200gr nosler flies very well, in this load at 300yds it equals 210 gr. 338 nosler which started at 2900 fps faster, but most likely in a lighter gun.

RL 17 and 150 TTSX. Accidentally primed some brass with 215 instead of 210's and decided to try RL 17 with this bullet as I had only so so luck with H4350. 55 and 57 gr loads six shot went into 3/4 inch, 59 opened up and 60 gr went right back into 1/2 inch. Rather be lucky than good any old day. Rifle is pre 64 fwt in mickey w/ 6X42 Leo.
I am very pleased with a Deep Curl Speer 180 grain bullet with 59 grains of Ramshot Hunter in my 30-06 with a Winchester magnum primer. A consistent 3/4" @ 100 yards with my Tikka T3. This load is measured on multiple passes at 2800 FPS in a 22.5" barrel. So for you 180 grain guys in a 30-06 this may be one for you to try. It also burns very clean and meters in the powder drop like a dream. Good load for big Whitetails and Elk. Buckfever1
