I'm shooting a .243 sps 700 varmit. I love the 87gr Vmax bullets, very effective. What about using Win 780 supreme? I find a load for 95gr bullets, but haven't found one for an 87gr. Is there a new book that has that powder listed for different bullets or not? Thanks!!

I've only launched them with H-4350, a good combo.
My approach when using a powder that only has limited data is to start with the heavier bullet data, then work up from there. I'd guestimate you could go up to a couple of grains over what the max charge is for a 95gr pill.

I personally would think the powder is a little slow for that bullet for max velocity... I'd look at H 414, or W 760 for that bullet weight..
or pick data for the 85 grainers, start a little low and work up..
Myself, I use 4064 or Varget or RL 15 for that bullet...

H 414 works awesome in my Savage sporter with the 87 V-max. I shoot balloons at 300 to 1000 yards with them and they will flat get out there and touch'em. My friend and I take turns with one person spotting and one shooting. It is great practice for long range coyote hunting, plus it is a blast because depending on the wind, hitting the balloon may take several shots! We also do not use turrents to adjust, just the milling reticle for windage and elevation. Not benchrest, but very practical practice for hunting type situations. We actually shoot from prone with bipod or sitting with bipod. Sitting will humble about anyone at those ranges! T.S.

What primers are you using with Hunter? With the case capacity of the .243 I've been using WLR standards in instead of a magnum primer.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

I started loading for the 243 about 15 years ago. Had a good supply of 4350 so I worked up a load with 75 Hornady HP's. The accuracy is so good, I would not consider changing. I have shot groups on one particular day of .400, 600, and .750 at 200 yards off a heavy bench. Plus I am getting 3350 fps with the load. So, 4350 might not be the best powder to use, but it works well with me.

schenk: As a rule of thumb when a powder isn't listed for a cartridge/bullet combo, it's because it either isn't satisfactory or its unsafe. In this case, I agree with the earlier poster that the powder is really too slow for the application. I'm sure it would work well with heavier bullets but a fster powder will probably yield better results.

Thanks tt. I'll stick with what i'm shooting. I am shooting 3200fps with the 87gr. I had some 80gr PSP's loaded that were shooting 3350, and they would get it. So far the 87gr V-Max has worked well on deer and coyotes, i've busted 3 coyotes, 2 were close w/in 200yds, and the other was bouncing across a field at 300. I've been using CCI primers also. I'll stay away from that powder. Thanks!

I have a 243, Remington 700, and I load 44 gr of IMR 4831 with 87 gr V Max. Winchester brass, Federal 210GM. Shoots like a house of fire!
