Does anybody use Ramshot TAC in .45-70? I have a Marlin 1895 on the way and have quite a bit of TAC. I'm thinking it should be about the right burning rate for some mid-range loads with Remington 405s and it does flow nicely through the measure. They don't list it on the Ramshot web site.

I have used TAC for some heavy loads in my .405 WCF and see no reason it should not perform well in the .45-70. Posibly you should check the Ramshot web site or give them a call for recommendations? http://www.ramshot.com/powders/

No data for TAC in the 45-70 on the site. I will call or email them.

I have a can of TAC, but haven't used it in my 45-70's. From what I've read it's a great powder, designed to reduce fouling.
The burn rate is right. It could be a great 45-70 choice.

I use TAC in my 444 Marlin. How does it perform compared to the usual choices? I read where it is formulated to cut down fouling, so it should be pretty clean. I think it's less temp sensitive than some of the others. DF

Was the first powder I tried. I used the data from there handbook. I loaded 3 rounds each with 240 grain XTP's, and 2 different charge weights. The first bunch landed all together (2 touching). I stopped with load development right there. 100 yards I might add.

TAC is in the same burn rate range as AA2230 - 2460 - 2495, 4895, Benchmark, etc. which I have used in various 444M, 450M, 45-70, and 458 American's.
Check out Hodgdons site for a burn rate chart and Ramshot for data. YOu might also find data just by googling TAC and 45-70 online. The Ramshot powders have many excellent characteristics so just work up starting low and work up slow. There is a wide range of powders that work well in the variously named cartridges.
