Seems Gander Mnt Corporate has ordered Mgr's to remove all the "attack & scary" taxidermy mounts from the stores according to the staff. So some taxidermy mounts including this one is up for grabs. I made a very low offer, but it was refused. Its not the greatest work, though little touch-up from a taxidermist would help. I understand it's only worth what one is willing to pay, but If you were interested, how much... $250.00? $1500.00? less/more? Just curious.

But wont exhibit nature in it's purest form..WTF... I'm assuming that by "the big C" you are referring to Cabelas. The original post referred to Gander Mountain. I bet that piece will go for $3,000 or more. The taxidermy work for two full body mounts would probably cost at least that much. Although I couldn't afford to pay that much myself. I wouldn't want to buy what someone else killed anyway. KC

[quote=Kenneth] Although I couldn't afford to pay that much myself. I wouldn't want to buy what someone else killed anyway. I kinda feel the same KC, though if I could buy the piece for few hundred I could find a place for it. Hell, the artificial rock it's on has to be worth couple hundred itself. Ya, It's kinda BS to remove animal mounts when your considered a "hunting retailer".

"Attack and Scary"? Yeah we don't want anyone to know what happens in the real world.......
I guess their next mount will be Obama petting Bambee, more "politically correct".
I've always suspected the last few years that Gander was owned/run by a bunch of liberal idiots.....my thoughts are further confirmed.

Why are they removing them? The cat is just giving him a hug.

Hard to put a price on. The key is "if you were interested" since I and some others here seem not to be it wouldn't be worth a dime to us. I have seen stuff purchased for decoration that looks a lot worse to me that went for 4-5 thousand. Saw that in an old 49 inch cape buffalo head mount that sold in an estate auction here about six or seven years ago.

I think they should donate the unwanted mounts to a sportsmen's club or similar organization.

$0. If I got it I would have to move it and find a place to store/display it.
No thanks. They'd have to pay me to take it away.

Personally, I have no real desire to display a mount that I or maybe a close family member didn't take, regardless the price. As always, YMMV.
At an auction a few years back of a western theme restaurant that had gone out of business, my eldest daughter bought a Bison head mount, a full body coyote mount and a nice chandelier made out of Mule Deer antlers, for relatively cheap. She was redecorating their home and the stuff worked well for the look she was going for.
My daughter has since redecorated again with my son winding up with the chandelier hanging in his house, the coyote sold to someone else and the Bison head now sits collecting dust in my garage.
I don't know if certain taxidermist's have attained a following and their works are considered collectible and valuable as renowned artists that work in other media have. If not, maybe they will be at some point in the future. Come to think of it, I don't recall ever seeing a mount with the taxidermist signature and date on it as with other works of art.

I'm no Mtn lion expert, but I was under the impression that lions bit at the base of the skull to break the neck.
Is that bite depicted a little low?
Thanks.

Obviously a mistake.
This is the animal version of Auguste Rodin's "The Kiss" sculpture.
