years upon years since i was last here; back then i had lucked into a 250 takedown and was looking for data. still have the rifle and it has taken several deer, all one shot drop in their tracks. well, the last one walked about 5 paces. all these years later i have another 99, it's been a long time coming for a number of reasons, none important. the straight lever action has been much used and gunsmithed over the years, but now carries a douglas barrel chambered for .30-30 AI, milled half round half octagon, the wood is beautiful but the metal needs final finish. since someone had d&t'd the action, i felt no sorrow in adding a K2.5 in weaver mounts as well as an original marbles tang and a new ramped front with a big square brass bead. unfortunately, i haven't the skill to post pic of the resurected gun, sorry; mebbe someone here could accept e-mailed pics and post them? bob

Definitely some pretty wood on it, though the style isn't going to be to everybody's liking. I'd happily hunt that.

Nicely done. I especially like the barrel configuration and chambering. (I would have passed on the cheek piece though.)

one thing i might note, i took the rifle varmint hunting in central Orygun upon receipt; pulled it out of the gun sock just after applying a Deet based repellant. if you value your an oil finish on your wood, do not do that! Deet cuts oil really well! bob

Yes, and it'll wreck the finish on a split-cane fly rod and also gum up the surface coating on an expensive fly line. Ask me how I know.

Just the kind of stuff you want to be rubbing all over your skin.

fire formed cases today, 3 shots into a 1/2" square at 50 yds. forming load was one i found in almost all my manuals so it figgered to be safe. didn't expect it to be accurate! bob
