Sixteen of us really enjoyed our shindig at Quemado Lake last week-end, in part because the air there was so cool.

The reason for that wasn't the light sprinkle (just enough to "settle the dust" and speckle windshields)

nor was it the light breeze (just enough to make the gnats and the skeeters hunker-down somewhere else)

And as soon as the sun went down, the cool really took over!

Midsummer coolness comes with the territory this high. My shack, for example, is 6,900 feet above mean sea level. The elevation at Quemado Lake is 7,860 feet MSL. The elevation at Paul's place is about the same as at the lake nearly 8,000 feet MSL. (The typically moderate relative humidity doesn't hurt, either!)

The elk seem to love it, too.

So our shindig would've been cool even if we'd been fussin', fightin', 'n' feudin' in typical on-line fashion! grin

I sure could go for some of that weather! Sounds like you had a good (and cool) time. Good for you!

We had a high of about 70 yesterday. It felt real good after a few days of 90+. We are only at 4400 ft so at the elevations you mentioned it may have been down right cold.

I've always wondered why folks who have air-conditioners run 'em (in the summer) at temperatures so much lower than they tolerate in the winter.

Dr. Ken lives in God's country wherever he is.

Our forecast for south central NM is hot and a chance of thunderstorms. Sounds like a reasonable "balance of meteorological trade".

Lived in Taos for a year('99-'00) in a rented Adobe house, no A/C & a wood stove and fireplace for heat in the winter. Mighty dang comfortable living year around, would love to live there full time if we could afford it.

But then again the kids & grand-kids are here, so here we will stay.

We don't. We set the AC at 75 and run heat at 68. (Did I mention that I hate summer?) Around here, one of the big indicators of righteousness is to have air conditioning and not use it. Bragging about how you aren't running it when the temperature (both outside and inside the house) is something that Dante dreamed up scores many points among the practioners.
