Dad just passed down a custom Springfield 03 barreled by Garrett in 25-06. I need some load data for the 80g and 100g Tipped TSX.

I am running a max charge (53 or 54 grains but I can't remember off the top of my head) of RL17 and 100 grain ttsx. I just bought a new lot of powder and it averaged 3343 fps in my Sako.

54 grains of H4831 with just about any 100 grain bullet will get it done at a smidge over 3,300 fps. I'm loading 56 grains behind a 100 grain Barnes XLC for 3,500 fps. in a .25-284 which has the same capacity as the .25-06 (the coating fetches an additional 100 fps.). Too bad these aren't made any more. I load the same load behind 100 grain Hornady soft points for just under 3,400 fps. This is a FABULOUS hunting bullet.

The books load the .25-06 really low for some reason. Most 100 grain loads show about 3,200 fps in the books. That isn't a whole lot better than a 6mm and the .25-06 holds a LOT more powder. As always, start at book and work up. Every rifle performs differently. Flinch

Flinch: Thanks, I've got both Rl 17 and H4831 on hand. Things are starting to take shape. With the 100g's running 3300-3500 fps, is there any reason to load 80g TTSX's?

Grand RL17 was by far was the fastest powder I tested. My Sako averages in the mid to high .4's for three shots with the ttsx's.

Nope....not at all. The 100's are a better hammer. You gain a "little" velocity with the 85's, but it falls off quickly. Past 300 yards, the 100's kick butt. Flinch

Yeah I've always noticed that the '06 had anemic numbers in the books... or at least what seemed to be such based upon the fact that I get 3300 fps from 100s in my 257 AI w/out pushing things.

The 100 gr Interlock is absolutely fantastic and shoots as well as kills VERY nicely through my Ackley. I'm running 100 gr TTSXs & ETips through my 257 Weatherby and they're accurate as heck, but haven't killed anything w/ 'em yet.

I hope our 25's like the hornady 90 grainers. Ordered a few of em. Gonna give them a try in 250AI and 25/06AI.

Efu: Thanks for the info. I live behind the copper-curtain, so no sense playing with lead based projectiles.

Blueprint. My granddad picked up three Springfield actions after the war to build sporting rifles, a National Match, Pedersen device receiver, and this Smith Corona. The National Match was his gun, built into a 30-06 with a Hart barrel and is a hammer. He built my dad a .270 on the Pedersen action. Dad shot the barrel out several times - currently wares a Jarrett barrel and shoots equally well. Grandpa built this Corona action into a 25-06 for my grandmother. When she passed, dad had Gerritt, founder of Accu-light rifles, rebarrel with what looks like a #3 Hart and restock. Gramps did all the original metal work in a night gunsmith class at the junior college.

Try some R#25 with Fed 215's in Win Brass with the 100's, 3450 fps+ with accuracy. Best accuracy will be right at a max load for your rifle.

100g Hornady Flat base and 100g Speer BTSP will kill any deer walking.

53gr of IMR4350 does ~3300fps in a 22" barrel, and is very accurate in my Tikka (just like most every other load )
