With the 265 gr which are your favorite loads?
How about some Reloder 7?

H4198 was not good to me.

Fotis,
Been noticing your question regarding the 444, 265 Hornady and Rl-7, thats the same combo I loaded for a bud that has killed game from Ar. to out west, up to Canada and back w\ the 444 lever rifle.
I went out to the shop and dug thru some old load recipies and found the load that worked so well for my friend.

WORK-UP, OF COURSE grin

444 Marlin all N.A. game loads:

265 gn. Hornady sp.
47.0 gns. RL-7
CCI-250 primer
vel. 2215 fps.
roll crimp in groove.

My old bud wanted to do a slam w/ a peep sighted lever action rifle, IIRC he killed bison, elk, mule deer, WT deer, moose, B. bear, mountain lion and hogs w/ this combo, and I dont remember of him complaining any. wink

That's pretty good velocity - was that chrono'd or out of the book? If chrono'd, I need some RL-7, I can only get in the high 21s with h4198. Although h4198 is the best in my 45-70...

Fotis, this was in the late 80's, my old bud is gone now, he was an old WW2 Marine sniper, IIRC he was getting 2" groups @100 yards thru the receiver mounted peep sight. Thats still some good shootin' for a Man in his late 60's, we should all be so blessed.

Fischer, Yes these were chronoed, and lit by a mag. primer, my old bud went on a 18 month hunting and fishing expedition, and would be shootimg in some very cold temps, his rifle was one of the early 444's w/ a 24" barrel.

Thanks. Mine is a 444s, 22" barrel. Take away 2" of barrel and I'm probably right there with you.
