So I held a Marlin Cowboy with octagon barrel and a Rossi 92 yesterday, both 45 Colts.

I really liked the Marlin but not 800.00 dollars worth.

The Rossi stock looked Muddy but I can fix that and it was only $500.00.

I can put a peep on the Skinner Marlin but I will need a tang sight on the Rossi

I am at a loss and would like some of your thoughts.

You'll LOVE that peep on the Marlin Cowboy and you'll forget about the extra $300 you paid for it very short order.....trust me!!

Dang, where are you shopping? Used Marlins are relatively cheap when compared to the $800 you quoted. Ditto with a Rossi 92 for $500!! shocked

IIRC, I paid around $600 for mine and it was NIB or LNIB.....

There is absolutely no comparison between a Marlin Cowboy in any caliber and a Rossi anything, especially if the Cowboy has a 24" barrel.I bought an 1894CB 357mag with the 24" barrel and I liked it so much I bought another one because they don't make them any more and when they are gone they are gone. They are my absolute favorite rifles. And I think one in like new condition is well worth $800 and even more. Just one mans opinion, mine.

I have a Rossi 92 and I won't be buying another one. I like it but the action is very stiff and so I sent it out to have it smoothed up by M&M gunsmithing. The stock is also very plain and my next lever action will likely be a Henry although I may have to check on the Marlin as well.

Buy the Marlin. You'll likely not regret paying a little more. I love my Cowboy in 45 Colt.

I went back and tried to find exactly what I paid and I couldn't tell for sure but I think it was more like $650. That was last year and they appear to keep going up in price. I'd shop around awhile but wouldn't sweat the price too much......

I almost ordered one back some time ago but didn't get 'round to doing so (or have the $$$.)

I thought it was the best looking lever~gun EVER.

Anyway, congratulations.

Here's my Marlin 1894CB 45 Colt. I didn't pay $800, but then again I wasn't in a hurry to buy. Fine gun, well balanced, and has fed every bullet profile I've tried in it, including 360gr LFNGC rounds.

lol Both the price and quality differential between what used to be and what now is may be able to be explained with the word "Remington", as in, owned by.
