I bought a box of stuff at a yard sale and in it was this white stone. It's about 8-9 inches long, flat on the bottom, both sides curve outward and the top also curves up in the middle, grit is on the fine side. What is this stone called and what is it used for?

hard to tell witout a photo..but it sounds like a worn, or specialty shaped stone.
Curved tools were sharpened by all manner of custom shaped stones.

Quit using Photo Bucket a couple years ago, never could get it to do what I wanted it to do. Never used it enough to learn it.

Sounds more like a rudder for a ducks butt to me.

Posting pictures from your computer When you start a new thread, or reply to a post in an existing thread, you'll see 'File Manager' listed right next to 'Post Options'. 1. Click "File Manager" to bring up the "Attachment" window. 2. Click "Browse" to bring up the file browser window; this will allow you to browse your computer for any files or images you wish to upload; please note that you're bound by whatever the "allowed file type" setting is for the board. 3. Click "open" on the file you wish to upload. 4. Enter a description of what the file is (if you want to). 5. Click "add file" to add another file, or "done" to close the window and complete your posting. Please note that you must enter some text in both the "subject" and "post" fields when responding otherwise you will receive an error; you cannot just respond with an attachment . The pic will not show in Preview mode. Found this in the Forum FAQ.

sounds like a sythe stone ...Russ Sounds like the stone my grandfather used on his though it was a newer synthetic. Starts flat and gets dished out from use. Into the '60s he'd scythe a little hay just for old times sake. Actually fairly productive if you keep it sharp and cut just a little per swing. He used a rhythmic, pulling swing, not a hard one that tires you out quickly.

OK, we've had our fun. I think it's sort of like those stones that were advertised to be natural deoderants. You rubbed them on your armpits instead of any chemical and they took care of offensive odor. This sounds like it is a similar item to be a natural replacement for toilet paper. Only experimentation will tell for sure.

Just Googled "scythe stone" for fun and got a bazillion hits. Can't believe anyone would want to actually use a scythe these days. Old timey, but durn, it's a lot of work for what you get.
