Has anyone hunted with a 9.3x62 at 300+ yards?

I've shot a few animals at 300 and little over, all with the 250-grain Nosler AccuBond handloaded to 2650 fps. It worked fine--as well it should.

Woodsmaster,

while on game the longest was just below 200 meters for a red deer in europe with 286 grains alaska norma bullet. at the range i was able to go over 300 meters with the norma oryx and the vulkan in 232 grains.

today i will do as John with the accubond.

I have whacked a lot of pigs at 300 meters with the 286 gr Norma PPDC. More than once have taken all five off the rail from the bench.

Just enough holdover the see daylight beneath the crosshair does it.

I took my best Kudu at 261 yards with a Woodleigh 286 PPSN. I had to use some Kentucky elevation even with that sharp bullet.
With the 250 Accubond it shoots flat enough to 300yards but I would not like to take a shot over that.

I have changed to 285/286 RNSP projectiles now and stay under 250 yard where it is a real 'Thumper'. That is where it works well.

Thanks for the replies. I'm used to shooting a 30-06, but we're moving to Fairbanks in a few months and the property we have up there has some decent sized bears on it according to my girlfriend. I figured my 30-06 should be fine but she is concerned it's not enough. What a great reason to get a new rifle laugh
It would mostly be for her, so the 9.3x62 might be too much for her. I've also looked at Remington 750's (the autoloader) in 35 Whelen, since they cut down on the recoil a bit.

I saw this add in GunsAmerica yesterday. New Winchester Super X auto in .300 WSM for $502. Butt ugly, but gas operated to help recoil. The shop is in OR. Good luck.

I fail to see how a 9.3 could be too much for a woman with a properly dimensioned stock and some time with light training loads.

I agree. If she's woman enough to live there she ought to be able to handle a 9.3.
It is not a punishing round. No worse than a 30.06 with 220s in it.

My daughter shoots that case necked up to .375 moving a 250 grain bullet at 2,700 fps with no complaints. Similar to a 338 win mag with a larger hole. Complete pass through on antelope at 350 yds with a 2 inch hole in and out. Similar results on deer and 3 black bears haven't complained with one shot each.

She will enjoy it with a good recoil pad.

Good luck.

Not yet but soon! My pre 64 M70 with 250 Accubond's running 2606 fps with 60 gr Varget underneath the VX3 1.75-6 with CDS elevation turret. Hit's out to 600 yds.

Still need a little tweaking for the 600 yd. Need to ad about 2.5 minutes to the 600 yd mark on the CDS dial.

A few months ago I took a new Blaser R8, 9.3X62 to a range with a 400 yard, 16 inch gong. I had loaded up several of the Barnes TTSX 250 grain bullets. It was no problem to hit the 400 yard gong, with good center hits. I personally would not try to shoot at game over 300 yards with one, but it is a more capable round than many give it credit for.

There are no fleas on the 9.3s.
