I just read a news item that says the US gov't. is developing a drone aircraft program to monitor the Can./US border. Each unit will cost $10,000,000. I guess the money problems down south aren't as bad as they would have everyone believe if they have this kind of money to spend on a program like this.

Why they would spend this kind of money on the Canadian border when you consider the difficulties they have on the Mexican border. That border would seem to be a better candidate for using this type of equipment.

Drones are already in use along the border, based here out of the grand forks, north dakota air base.

Welcome to the fire CW. They have been reported along the border north of Duluth as well. My question to my government is why they allow a foreign military craft into our airspace if indeed they do.

I am certain the "drones" do not fly in Canadian airspace... they have no need too, A $10 million a/c is carrying a camera that can easily look several miles away.

And they are being used on the southern border.

I happen to work with a "drone" program for a living... not in the US anywhere, and if I had my druthers as a tax paying American, I would not see them patrolling the north border... what are they stopping, some pot smugglers??? Who cares????

mrk80- you have 11 posts on a forum whose purpose in naming it such is to be a 'campfire' where people act like friends out camping. Why join a room intended mainly for our friends to the north specifically to insult them? Welcome to the fire- I hope you take its intended spirit to heart. By the way, it isn't like we have any shortage of A-holes running around here is it? I am thinking this might be a good place to get some advice on how to avoid having a bad experiencing visiting them next time instead. More prodcutive done't you think?

Hell, I have run into complete schitheads in most places without even trying. I would imagine that border crossing points that are "out of the usual way" might be considered "Siberia" by the administrators of both Canuckian and 'Murican BP. What better place to exile known idiots. We are all bound to run into something similar after a while. I have met more "jerks per square mile/kilometer" from Kebek than any other province. Every other place Canuckians tended to reside was damn good with first class folks.

I suggest you troll another section if you don't like Canadians and their predictable reaction to your ignorance ... eh.

Also, I take comfort to know that folks like you don't represent the norm for other fine Americans ... eh.

I agree with you there my New Brunswick poster. We are assumed to be friendly and complacent as a people, but we are fiercely patrotic and do not suffer ignorance or disrespect well. I wish you well from the North West corner of Ontario. (no where near Toronto smile )

It is unfortunate when others perceive our patriotism as somehow being a slur against their country.

Hey Randy ... Right you are. I do love my country. Even with it's socialist warts and all, it's still the only place I want to live and call home. I thoroughly detest when someone rails against it and will stand up for such things every time.

BTW ... I am from S. Ont, even born in TO, but moved to Guelph area and grew up there. Been here in NB since 85. I like Ont, except the GTA.

I believe that the problem here (I live on the Canadian border), is that many of the American Border Patrol rotate up to the I-5 corridor from working somewhere on the Mexican border. I believe that many of them bring their attitude with them from down south. We cross the border frequently and even with Nexus passes, the BP agents are very unfriendly and surly sometimes on the US side.

I also wonder if all of the Mexican-American Border Patrol agents here in Washington are American citizens? Some of them don't seem to speak english very well. Plus, Ms. Neopolitano needs to concentrate on her job and quit making wisecracks about the Canadian Border Patrol. They are sure nicer and more polite than our agents.

I have a daughter living in GTA. It is a standing joke with her and I as she grew up here in the bush. You do not have to go too far out of TO to be in some pretty country, and because of her I have met some great people who live right in the city. I actually spoke at her school to four assemblies about sustainability, hunting as a wildlife management tool, hunter gathering tradition and water cycles and need for tree planting.

I haave drive through New Brunswick only twice and the countryside there makes me feel at home. I have travelled extensively and like you want Canada to be home. I too see the warts, but love her in spite of them.

Funny............went camping in Alaska a few months ago and while waiting my turn I see the car in front of me pulled over and a bag of oranges being taken into the US customs building. At the time my 2 and 4 year old daughters were sittin behind me just polishing off a couple of the same said contraband items and as I was being waved up to the the agent they deposited the peels into my lap.
I said sorry to the gent but explained my daughters were busy eating lunch as we entered the line up. The newly minted agent and (no doubt just recently disschargerd marine) asked if I had any other oranges and where were they located. I said in a cooler at the back of my SUV. He asked me to roll down the window and he checked the cooler. On his return he said the oranges were ok but that he had in fact found "THIS" and in his outstretched hand showed what he descibed as a MEXICAN Avocato. I was then asked to pull over and we were to all come inside the customs building. As we stood in line behind the orange smugglers, my 2 year old protested loudly that the man was taking her avacodo and she dissaproved. The agent looked her squately in the eye and said that he was not keeping it himself but was going to put it in the garbage and then burn it. My 2 year old thought this was just silly and demanded it back. I was only able to salvage the situation by promising my daughter we would stop at the next store and replace her avacodo, thus averting an international incident.

I understand their worries about oranges and avacados. I hear they are a huge farming industry in Alaska.
