Seriously though...We had a small run of the aluminum bottom metal made at the same time we did our 4140 stuff, primarily for guys like Chet who do a bunch of backpack hunting and want to get their 70's down under 8 lbs. loaded. Dropping weight in the bottom metal, follower, mounts is realistically the only weigh to trim weight on a 70 without going to a buggy whip, ballistically compromised barrel or swiss cheesing the receiver.
Though cutting the loading port open to 3.600" and opening up the mag well for our box does knock off a few more ounces off the receiver.

No, not in house. We are still in the stone age as far as production machining goes. We are having the same company ( http://www.cvm-inc.com/) that machines our mount blanks, follower blanks, and replacement trigger pins make them for us. The guys at CVM are outstanding. Most are hunters or gun people and are willing to put up with D'Arcy and I, even though our stuff is just a drop in the bucket for them. They come to us straight off the CNC and then we drill, ream and pin the floorplates to the butt hinge and do the final fitting of the release latches. Brian

Hmm, though D'Arcy was using a Burgess and/or Blackburn bottom metal for the Legend?
Regardless, attention to detail is inspiring to say the least.
Then again, for the likes of Echols, Simillion, Miller/Crum, Penrod, Heilmann etal are at the pinnacle of perfection.
Congrats Chet!

Congrats Chet! Thanks. To the best of my knowledge, D'Arcy has not used any Blackburn bottom metal on the Legends. For years, the "base option" was Williams bottom metal and the "upgrade" was Burgess bottom metal. In fact, my 270 Legend has the Burgess bottom metal, and it is really nice. Problem is, with Tom Burgess having passed a few years ago, there is not much of it left. As such, D'Arcy has started producing his own bottom metal to fill the void. Chet

As already said, the fit of stock to metal on this rifle is amazing.
The first McMillan stock I ever ordered had inletting that good. That was back when Williams came out with the first version of their one piece bottom metal.
