Unbelivable, wonder if he got a pass on the psyche eval. Besides the many procedural errors caught on tape, one loses his integrity when caught doing things half assed, and the other looks the other way when most of this is going on. What worries me beyond the significant fact of leaving the driver unattended behind the wheel is the fact that Barny immidiatly after placing the passenger in custody performed a search w/o asking the driver permission. Makes ya wonder if this is "policy" through out or just a one time incident. IMO this looks like "policy" and they got caught, the "O Crap" moment came after the "Do I know you" ploy failed and then Snuffy loses his mind trying to figure out how to salvage what should have been a simple stop and question.

At a Canton City Council meeting on July 25, Council President Allen Schulman angrily chastised citizens who have expressed concerns about Canton and its police force in the wake of the Daniel Harless meltdown. He went on to whine about having received a lot of email.

Schulman, you're lucky that there isn't civil unrest on your very doorstep. While neither I nor OFCC advocate that approach, I'm surprised that it hasn't happened. Whatever develops from this point forward, one thing is certain: Your public relations hellstorm hasn't even begun to kick up sparks.

A police officer you employ to protect the citizens of Canton threatened to execute an unarmed citizen in handcuffs. I forget if that was before or after the cop threatened to "cave in his head," "blast him in the mouth," and "step back and put 10 rounds in him."

Now, what type of statement would Canton voters, and citizens everywhere, reasonably expect from the Canton City Council president?

Here, let me help you out:

"The City of Canton condemns the unlawful behavior of Daniel Harless, and has terminated his employment with the Canton Police Department. A pending investigation will determine if Mr. Harless will face criminal charges. Moreover, by August 15 we will have initiated an in-service training program designed to strengthen our police department and ensure that this type of incident cannot happen again. Finally, all charges against the defendant have been unconditionally dropped. We continue to call upon all Canton residents to place their full trust in our police department, as together we move past this horrific incident."

That sure beats Schulman's public clownery on July 25.

This angers me but it doesn't surprise me.

What I see in the video is an authoritarian(s) who was looking for someone to get his/their "fix" and screwed up so badly in so many ways, then attempted to cover their asses and embarrassment by getting loud, making threats, and coming close to destroying someone in order to save their position and God knows what else. Its something a thesis can and has been written on.

I've seen it many times in many different circumstances.

Reason I'm not surprised is I've been in similar if less volatile situations myself.

Almost ran down by a cop while on my motorcycle doing the speed limit only to have him yell how , if I fought the 80 in a 35 ticket I would loose because he had been chasing me since the North hanger. Problem for him is I punched out at the south hanger and headed south.

Then there was the time I got pulled over on suspicion of DUI at 3 am. Cop asks how long I'd been at the bar, I got there ~ 1:45 LIER! You've been there all night (punched out of work at 1:30) ... How much did I have to drink? 2 beers LIER!! ... Ok, let me blow into you're machine cause we both know thats where this is heading. 0.06. He stood there holding my license, in the middle of the road, in a heavy snow, with passing cars, trying to figure how how could screw with me.

One of the large problems in our society is Joe Citizen has never had an experience with a bad LEO, nor been ran through the system. When Joe reads in their papers Police Blotter how someone has been arrested for something they believe that person is guilty because why would the Police arrest an innocent person? I use to think Joe Citizen was an idiot, or someone who knows where their bread was buttered so they went along with the easy thought. I have since come to understand that people know little outside their own experience so Joe is just inexperienced.

Without the video of this situation I have no doubt the driver would have been found guilty of a felony and possibly be serving time.

(Just a thought, I'm surprised the prosecutor didn't have this video suppressed because of the electronic recording laws going around the various states. You know, the law cited and enforced to suppress recordings of the bad actions of the Police?)

Another thing is, while the charges have been unconditionally dropped have the charges been expunged? Have all records of this been erased from existence? Or at least removed from a data base that cannot be accessed by a background check?

I can see where, if this isn't removed from the database, how this gentleman may go to buy another firearm 10 or 20 years from now and be put on delay, and stay on delay till hell freezes over, because of the illegal and actionable behavior of this Cop.

The background check may even come back as a denial in which case he would have to go through the merry go round of having to clear his name over, and over, and over again.

Search for the video of the city counsel vs the mayor in a meeting. The police there are out of control. A citizen is removed at a meeting during the public comment period because she is providing details on corruption.

He needs to be more than fired. WTF..... I saw this video a couple of weeks ago and it just disgusts me.

Well its a shame how this LEO acted, it brings negative veiws on all cops! He is a bully with a badge. His partner was a punk afraid of him and backed him up too. I have had a CCW in three states and never had to put up with this kind of punk who doesn't remember who he works for! Failure to do his job correctly put himself in the position he was in that night. The citizen can be there for whatever reason he wants and doesn't have to justify why he is there. Even if she was a hooker, and the other was her pimp, what people like them can't have friends? Maybe he was going to give them a ride to the other side of town, who cares! Canton, Ohio is one place I'll not go to, guess they don't need visitors there to help with their economy! I hope he doesn't just get fired. I hope they put him in jail so he will get to meet some of the people he railroaded and one makes him his Ho!
