Well so you shoot an Amish machine gun, why bless your little heart. Kidding aside, there is not a dam thing wrong with that rig. I would hunt with that and not loose any sleep over it either.

I dont really know that I could really bring my self to hunt with it. After all its a 270.
Pretty much a clone (including the scope) to my dads rifle which he killed his first and biggest bull elk in 58. Only his was in the magnum 270 (06).

Gee, Royce. I'm worse than you. My heavy cover elk rifle is one of those things in 30'06. Doesn't evn have a scope, let alone the 4X Leupold. I even got an old one in .257 Bob. Love'em both. E

The comb slopes to the rear;too much drop at heel.

Balance will suck as it is not at the front action screw(?)...and is too far back. Running game cannot be hit....

Elk near and far will run from the rattling forend and cannot be approached closer than Missouri.

It is heavy, exceeding "conventional wisdom" by 38 ounces...

The cartridge should relegated to the antiquities museum....it doesn't work anymore..

Good write up Fred!

Bob,

You forgot "inaccurate."

I dunno how Fred's shoots but mine will only do around 3/4" with 130 Partitions and 140 AccBonds. Obviously not adequate for elk beyond black-timber ranges....

Saw title, was getting nervous about still using my purpose built Remmie 760--had Jesse O. rechamber/bore a beater '06 to 35 W. for a stick timber, scabbard friendly elk killer...doing its duty, until a horse fell and rolled with it...Now wearing tupperware stocks in some sort of snow camo that is better for shooting with the 3x Leupy.in the old redfield mount with flip-up peep ready for use when all the branches are ready to dump snow...Idabull

Too bad it's not the '06 version; it'd kill a lot better a lot farther away!!!

Well, mine doesn't outshoot the first .270 I ever owned--a Remington 700 ADL that would average around an inch at 300 yards with 150 Hornady Spire Points. But then not many rifles have!
