What is the best way to ship a firearm out of state? USPS, UPS? I do not have an FFL. I would ship to an FFL, Correct? What does shipping cost for a long gun? Thanks
I use USPS exclusively. As to cost that would, of course, depend on weight and destination and method of shipment. You can ship to an FFL holder but your local clerks may not know that. Mine do.
For a long gun, you can ship via USPS and believe or not, that may be the best price. Just sent a rifle from PA to the west coast via priority mail. It was about $20 base postage. I added insurance and signature delivery confirmation. Total was right around $30 and it was there in 3 days. UPS would have taken twice as long and would have cost more. That's been my experience anyhow. YMMV
With handguns, unless you are an FFL or ship via an FFL, you are stuck with FedEx, UPS, etc.

Box it up so it is not identifiable as a rifle and mail it at the Post Office. They won't ask what it is even when you buy insurance and you need not tell them. This is entirely legal. A non-FFL cannot mail a pistol FWIW. Ken
