Nikon D1x, circa 2002-2003. A beast of a camera--tough, rugged, heavy. Takes great pictures but has terrible battery life.
In fact, I think the only really attractive upgrades that have been happening in digital cameras in the past few years have come in the realm of battery and data storage technology: basically, more in smaller packages. The basics of optics and camera features are pretty static, from my perspective, having been raised on film SLR's.

My Canon powershot G5 finally gave out on me. It lasted 10 years and took thousands of photos. I'm waiting on the G13 to come out and I will go that route.
Several friends/family have the DSLRs and they take very nice pictures, but they are so bulky that I doubt I would ever have one on me if I saw something I wanted to take a picture of.

I've still got my second digital. Gave the first one to oldest son. The one I have is a Sony MVC-CD1000 Mavica. Uses mini cd to record pics on at a whopping 2.5MP. The first one I had was also a Sony MVC-CD0700. That one used 3.5 " floppies to record at 1.5MP I've come a long way from those to Canon 5D IIs
Handgun Hunter no more. STILL LOVE THOSE .41's

My first was the Panasonic FZ20, but sold it a few years ago to get the Nikon D90 which I currently have.

I got my D70 Nikon about 2002 and still use it some today. My D5000 won't work in auto focus with my older lenses. D5000 has a lot better resolution though. Speaking of battery's, I bought a spare when I got my D70 and both are still working well today.

My first digital camera was a Bushnell Outdoor Camera (rubber armored-water resistant) The next was a Canon Power Shot A95, the next was an Olympus Stylus Tough 6000. Somewhere in the middle, I acquired my Fuji Film Fine Pix S-1 Pro DSLR! I still have all of them, and use them at times just to keep them from feeling left out!! Of course, I still have my Asahi Pentax Spotmatic I bought in Viet Nam in 1967!! You just cant have too many cameras!!! They all still work good!! Ken

I just sold mu Leica M2 cameras and lenses and five Nikon F bodies with seven lenses. I used these in Vietnam, and a whole lot of other places, including Woodstock and the 1968 Democratic convention. I have the negatives and contact prints - but the memories of the years with all of this great gear are, as they say, priceless. Now I have an ancient Olympus D-600L that is probably 15 years old. I am looking at a new Leica digital but wonder what I would use it for. I kept my Nikonos because I have been trying to kill the bloody thing for decades and it just refuses to give up the ghost. In my opinion the Nikonos is the best possible camera for the hunter - fisherperson - hiker - back-packer - etc.

My first was a Canon Elph digital. It replaced my APS Elph. I used it for safari as it would fit in my shirt pocket. Currently have 2 D2h's and a D2x. They replaced my D1x's which I would still be using but for the lousy batteries. They did everything I can ask of a camera but have a battery that lasted over one day more or less. Sold my Leica M6's and lenses to buy the D2's. Was a good move.
