I finally pulled the trigger on a new pair of binos. Previously I had an old school pair of Cabelas binos. They worked well for me but last year I found them a little lacking. I went back and forth for a while and it took me about 3 months to decide on a pair. I was finally able to try the EL's, SLC-HD, and Leicas side by side and it came down to erginomics for me. I discounted the EL's initially because I could see the rolling ball when I scanned. I talked to the dealer about it while looking though a pair and he made the valid point that I was scanning pretty quick. He told me to scan like I would while hunting and see how much I noticed it and I didn't notice it much at all and I was really looking for it. Over time I think I won't even notice it.
I guess my eyes are set pretty close togeather and my old binos wouldn't even get as close togeather as I wanted. I was glad to see all of the above would. The thing that set the EL's apart was that when set close togeather they were a lot easier to grip for me with one hand and still allow me to focus them. That was probably the biggest factor.
Anyway, just figured I'd pass on my impressions of them and why I got what I got. So far I'm really happy with them but it'll take a few seasons before I can give a real solid review on their overall performance.
By the way I got them from Camera Land and from the time I ordered them to when they were in my hand was about 20 hours...that's crazy fast for free shipping.
