When I chamber a round in my rem 700 .223 it leaves a small dent on the shoulder of the bullet. The dent is small enough that you have to use a finger nail to feel it. Any ideas of what is causing this? thanks Tommy

In the shoulder of the "bullet" or do you mean "case?"

Is there dirt in there?

Every so often I get a dent on a case and it usually comes from a burnt piece of powder in the chamber. Here is a pic of the latest one I got in my 30-30; I had fired that cartridge.

If you don't have one already, get a chamber brush and thoroughly clean the chamber.

If I'm wrong, I'll admit it. If I don't reply further, I'm satisfied with my side of the "debate."

if it feeding smoothly that is the case, dirt in your chamber...

doesn't hurt to shoot the brass, as it is not weakening it at all..

handloaders get much bigger dents, over lubing the case for resizing all the time..

You have chamber cooties. Get a nice brush and some solvent and have a go.
