Hello, Looking at a M&P 15 .556 1/9Twist. I have had a couple guys tell me that the smiths are junk! Said that they will not shoot .556 and .223rem, they are a one round gun. They said they are very ammo friendly , will only fire certain ammo and not surplus at all.Tried calling Smith and Wesson and was on hold 35min. Can someone please help me with this? Bobby

They are very good rifles/carbines. You might want to buy a current production that has a 1 in 7" barrel. Or maybe not. Up to you. But, they are very good.
RE: "I have had a couple guys tell me that the smiths are junk!" Ask them if they have one or have used one. I would wonder if they have any experience with one. Or more.

The S&W is going to be my next one. Saving up for it now. It's light weight and lower price will make it a good beater gun to rattle around in the truck
I could wish a lot of things on my worst enemy but neuropathy ain't one of them.

I bought the the 5.45X39 model a few years ago and so far I've been very impressed with it. I would buy another.

I have one. Very reliable so far and surprisingly accurate. So far it has put 3 rounds of anything I've tried into 1 1/4 or less @ 100yds with a 2x7 Burris fullfield. Some of those groups have been much better, like putting 3 60 grain Partitions into about 5/8". They definitely aren't junk.

We replaced our Ruger PC-9's with 15 S&W M&P-15A's on our police academy firing range. We just finished our 3rd. year using the S&W's. We have not experienced a single malfunction so far, using factory ammo. Each rifle has about 1500 rounds through it at this point.
The S&W's are great guns.

My 5.45X39 has been awesome. Reliable, accurate, and very cheap to shoot and train with.

Thanks, just got in my eotech-512> also bought a set of troy back ups and a magpul moe hand guard and grip. Thinking of adding my surefire G2 to the hand guard, But cant decide on what type of mount to use. Maybe the magpul 1913 5 slot rail and a 1" scope ring? Also mine don't have a place for a sling in the front what can I do? Thanks Bobby

How much money is the smith you're looking at? Why 1/9?
