Curious if anyone has tried some .30 cal. sabots with .224 bullets in them. If anybody has some good info on these I would love to hear it. I suppose these would be home made Remington Accelerator loads. The Remingtons didn't group all that well, thought I would try it myself but haven't had much luck.

Jody,
Look at jdcomponents.com they have the sabots and the data to go along with them. I have shot them with .224 bullets from 55 to 77 grains in a 30-30 to a .30/378, even in an M-14. They will cycle the M-14 too! You will have to work up a load in your rifle just as you do with a regular bullet. I hope this helps.
Good shooting,
Marcus.

I tried Accurate 5744 which I use for cast bullets, along with polyester filler, and 1 bullet out of 3 hit the paper. I then tried 18 gr. of Trail Boss, which almost filled the case, and I at least got a pattern ( 8"). I have the load data for the sabots, but I thought I would try a little lower velocity to start with. I'll try Reloader 7 next. Thanks

I never did get anything that would show real accuracy potential in the 30-06, I did however have some moderate success with them in the 308 and the 30-30 liked them better.
One of the tricks to getting something close to accuracy is to match the weight of the 22 bullet to the twist in your rifle barrel. Also chamfering the inside of the case mouth, and flaring the case mouth before seating helped alot.
In the 308 medium burn rate for the cartridge powders worked best. While using fast powders like 2400 and 5744 worked better in the 30-30.
Have fun with them, they can sure make you tear your hair out, but it is something different to do without buying a new rifle in a new cartridge.

the most expensive bullet there is isn't worth a plug nickel if it don't go where its supposed to.
