Hey Everyone, I am looking for a Carter thumb release. Since college is starting I am looking for a used one that will be reasonable in price. If anyone has a used one that they would be willing to sell. Please send me a pm.

He's right ...... you won't get a better deal than the classifieds over on Archery Talk: Archery Talk Classifieds: Releases

I'm liking the looks of the new 4 finger Carter Plain 1 and wanting to try it. But then its hard to believe the Plain 1 will feel any better than my favorite Carter 4 finger Chocolate Lite and it's back up twin brother that I've been using the past couple of years. Of course, that's after going through several different makers and styles first.

If you like a 3 finger thumb release, the Carter Simple 1 looks like it will be hard to beat also.

Just be patient, get actual pics, ask the seller questions, check feed back, and pick the one you want to try.

They also had a 'Member Release Swap Program' in the same forum/section going a while back you may want to browse/search for. AT Members were swapping releases to try different ones without the need to buy/try/sell/buy expensive releases on a regular basis until they found the right one.

Hope this helps and Good Luck.

Okay, so I figure the big round thingy(technical term) on the left is the trigger that is actuated by the thumb, but what is the small lever looking thingy to the right of the trigger?

Also, is this type of release difficult to get used to? Are they only for target shooting or are they suitable for hunting also?

thanks.....Jeff

That sets the loop lock. Yes they can and are used a lot for hunting.

Been shooting 5 spot, 3D, & hunting with Carter thumb release(s) for the past 5 years - wouldn't change back. The thumb release naturally facilitates rotation of the wrist counter clockwise (for a RH shooter), which puts the knuckles against the face/cheek for a consistent, solid anchor point each and every time. Personally, I can't say the same for an index finger/wrist strap style release. Your mileage may vary.
