Curious if anyone has done this and what the results are. Seems like in the 1B type configuration you might have something pretty special for those long long shots at Whitetails. Thoughts.

What caliber #1 would you start with before you cut a new chamber?
Since a #1 doesn't have a magazine to impose COAL limits, I would think that the 256 Newton, 6.5-06, or 6.5-06AI would be better choices than the 6.5-284. That said, the 6.5-284 is the only 1 of the bunch that will clean out a 6.5x55 chamber, so it is really the only practical choice if the donor barrel is chambered in 6.5x55.

I may be wrong but I don't remember the 1B ever being chambered in 6.5x55. They have been chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor though. In which case a 6.5-06AI will cleanup that chamber as well the 6.5x284. With that said, you mention "longish" shots on whitetails. The 6.5 Creedmoor is already up to the task. The 1B has also been chambered in .264 Win Mag which is more than up to the task.
Now if you just want to do a 6.5x284, by all means go for it and make sure you post pics when its done.

I think that Lipsey's had some non-cataloged #1s made up in 6.5x55.

Sorry, guess I wasn't clear (happens a lot). Talking about rebarreling a number 1 to 6.5x284. Probably a Lilja barrel 26" long. Barrel taper would be the same as a number 1 B. Just wondering if anyone has done it.

Once had a #3 that left the factory as a .22 Hornet, which someone had rechambered to .22-284. I had a .223 #3 barrel, so had it rebored/chambered to .308 Win and installed. At the time the Prescott, AZ cutrifle barrel re-borer/maker, suggested having the .22-284 chambered barrel rebored/chambered to 6.5x284. Before rebarreling, you might consider reboring a smaller diameter barrel to 6.5x284? I've a few rebored barrels, and they work just fine and are accurate as well. Just a thought.
Do good out there...

Had a #3 in 30-284. Impressive. Jim
