I use Ballistol on my black powder rifles. I've found it to be a good, versatile product.

Have been using it on hand tools/garage, working well in humid NC. Bought if for blackpowder, but haven't got around to trying.

I, also, use Ballistol as a lube and cleaner for my BP guns. A water soluble oil, it is a basic ingredient in my recipe for "moose milk" - used as a bore cleaner and patch lube. 16 oz. of water + one oz. of Murphy's oil soap + one quarter cup of Ballistol.

Good lube for metal. Works on wood, leather, etc...
The smell is an acquired taste, like old #9.

Use it a lot. Good stuff except for the 'old jockstrap' smell..
It's great for firearms - as opposed to WD-40 which is horsebleep for firearms..
Ex- USN (SS) '66-'69

Ballistol is one of the better products I've used. Eezox and Ballistol are my go-to products for gun metal preservation. Neither are winners in the odor department but the positive results outweigh the stink.

The best use that I've found for it is to cover up scratches on woodwork. The smell goes away as soon as it drys.

I like it a lot. Prefer it over Break-Free- which ain't bad stuff. Nice to have on hand.

I use it straight up for guns and leather. Never could get in my head to mix it with water and put on my guns.

Works great to restore old, dried wood and leather. First-rate oil for saddles and other tack; doesn't make the leather mushy like neats foot oil and prevents mildew. Good general-purpose lube and rust preventer. The web-site is worth a look just for amusement value. A list of things Ballistol is good for would be shorter than a list of things it is not good for. Havn't tried it as an octane enhancer but it seems ok for a topical antiseptic.

+1. A list of things Ballistol is good for would be shorter than a list of things it is not good for I'm thinking that it's the other way round, a longer list of good things.

I have used it a half dozen years, and it's the same thing as WD-40 to me. It smells like pig crap and licorice but WD smells too. I don't think it's toxic. People use it in home remedies. They say not to use WD on gun parts because it gums up. I never did. I have used break free and ballistol. To think of it, I wipe the wood down with ballistol and wouldn't with break free! I know a guy who uses it on leather. I've seen him spray his knife sheath inside and out with it and recommended I do the same.
