I know there have been lots of threads on the Remington triggers and the publicity that some of the model 700's would prematurely fire. My question is, does the Remington X trigger have any issues at all or was the X trigger a response to the perceived problems on the former triggers? I will be buying my daughter a Remington rifle and can buy one with either the X trigger or the earlier model. Just wondering if the X trigger is better and/or safer. Thanks for any insight you might have. Just want to get her the safest model as I would never forgive myself if something happened to her.

From a safety aspect, both are just fine. The problems with the older triggers were due to people adjusting them that didn't know what they were doing. I have a 3-4 year old 700 SPS with the X-Mark pro trigger, and it sucked until I got it lightened up. It's still not great, but it's better. I have a new XCR2 with the new X-Mark Pro Adjustable trigger, and it's MUCH better. The difference is that the newer one can be adjusted via that screw on the actual trigger itself. The older designed required removal of the action from the stock.

I have a Rem. 700 VTR and it has the new X-Mark Pro trigger and think it is almost as good as the Timmy Trigger on all my Mausers! Not bad for a factory run gun!

The one bad thing I keep hearing about the new Remington triggers is that they're made of cheap pot metal and are prone to breaking completely off. Maybe someday Remington will get it right but I doubt it.

The early X-Mark Pros are less likely to break than the current versions. There is no safety issue with any of them.

Oh yeah, you cant adjust it as low as their original trigger, and that sucks. Replaced the last one with a new Jewell.

You can adjust it as low as a hunting trigger can be safely adjusted.

Thats not near low enough for me, I like the 19oz on my 708 and 20oz on my 308 for hunting. Both have original remmy trippers.

When I adjusted the trigger on an SPS to about 2 1/2 lbs, the screw head stuck out so far as to be a bother. I removed the screw and Dremeled about 3/16" off and replaced it. Good to go.

If we live long enough, we all have regrets. But the ones that nag at us the most are the ones in which we know we had a choice.
