Alligator Gar grow to 19 feet. One killed in Arkansas on Lake Conway. Not caught on a rod and reel though, so no record.

One extra-hot (~120F) August day in 1946, the water in Tensaw Lake was so hot that I had to pull myself down the anchor rope to find cool water 'way down.

Disturbed a big gar down there. As it turned to get away, its tail fin knocked wind out of me.

Barely made it up to air.

I live not too far from the Trinity River. There are some awful big aligator gar in it. Big needle nose too. Biggest I ever saw was in what is called big eddy. He was ten foot at least.

A guy from Vicksburg caught one that weighed 327 lbs, was 8'5" long and was 48" in circumference. Not sure if was by rod and reel.

The Colorado river had tons of them, at my place the river is brackish. I caught some really big ones while night fishing for trout/reds. You see lots of them some nights and then none the next. Only the smaller ones (50lbs+less) come up in the lights, the bigger one hang in the dark of the river. You can hear them feeding, lot of fun putting a big rod out for one.
