BASE jumpers are beyond crazy.

They are true adrenalin junkies. They have to keep escalating the danger level to get their "fix", and inevitably they either get treatment or they die.

This guy is out of his mind; skillful, yes, but out of his mind. At 1:19, 1:26, 1:40, etc. he barely clears the ground. There is no way that he could have predicted how close he was going to come to the ground nor climb if needed.

I made over 570 freefalls (in the mid 1960's and I know that gear has come a long way, but there is no way hhe could climb, if needed to clear an obstacle.

I just read a Popular Mechanics article about this kind of stuff. They have a list of men who'd made advancements in equipment and technique. Even more impressive is how many of them are now deceased at a premature age.

That is a pretty high rate of attrition.
Sounds even more dangerous than base jumping, though I have to admit, it looks like one heck of a lot of fun.

Life insurance rates must be very high for these guys, or unavailable.

A suit that can be controlled for a landing is still on the drawing boards last I heard. The glide rate of the current suits is too high. If you compare the surface area of the suit to a chute, you can see that he's falling MUCH faster than a chute.

Never saw a flying squirrel with a parachute smile I'll grind the crack from time to time but I never jumped off a cliff to do it wink
