Hey guys. Let's show off some of our winchester rifles. I've got a couple of pre 64 model 70's that I am particualarly proud of and a newhaven that shoots lights out (the darndest thing). I'll post some pics of my rifles and how each one shoots. I'm hoping to use one of them in a week for deer season. Let's start this off with some of my pre 64's: Std weight model 70 30-06 made in 1951: I ran across this rifle by word of mouth. I had been looking for one of these in just the right condition and my wifes uncle found it for me. I got it for a song and sold the original stock (with metal butt plate), the original peepsights, vintage redfield scope that came with the rifle and now I am into the rifle as it sits for $140.00 I left the one piece redfield mount on it and kept the cool redfield rings that have the screws on the bottom for a sleek look. I pillar bedded it, freefloated the barrel and made the forend screw non functional (dummy screw) and It shoots like this just incase you were wondering: This is my most recent pre 64 model 70 purchase. It is a 30-06 fwt and was made in september of 1956. It has been glass bedded in the recoil lug area for right now. It weighs 8 pounds "all up" and is a joy to carry. The pointability is just about perfect for me: I recently put a leupold vx3 3.5-10x40 on it and it looks like it is going to be a great shooter too, once I work up a good load for it: I recently shot some nice groups with it using some 180 partitons and H4350 powder. The newest addition to the family is a rifle I've wanted for the longet time and much thought went into this one. It is an extreme weather model 70 made at the new FN plant in Columbia SC. They are putting out some great products. This extreme weather has a mcmillan compact edge stock, Leupold VX 3 3.5-10x40 with CDS in talley lightweight lows. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite rifles. It weighs a little over 7.5 pounds all up and shows some promise for accuracy. I'll work up some good loads after seasnon:
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

My FN PBR XP 300 wsm is one I particularly like. It just shoots great and adds confidence. I have also bedded this one and it did a 180 in terms of accuracy afterwards: My most recent target shot in anticipation to deer season in a week (upper target) 10 shot group... 10 shots at 160 yards. FN made winchester model 70 fwt 308win. I haven't done anything to this rifle except for adjust the moa trigger and work up some loads for it. It has a cheap bushnell elite 3200 3-9x40 on it but it seems to be a pretty good scope so far :

Here's my Newhaven 30-06 that I put in a factory synthetic that I spent way too much time bedding. But hey it shoots now It wears a bushnell elite 4200 2.5-10x40 scope: Not flimsy anymore Here's a pre 64 model 100 (308 win) that has really grown on me: Put a burris FFII 3-9x40 with ballistic plex reticle on it and it shoots alright: Trust me, it doesn't shoot like this all the time

First year production South Carolina 7/08 Featherweight: 1938 vintage .270 standard in a McMillan pre-64 Monte Carlo pattern stock, GAP camo. I don't own either anymore, but that was a sweet setup. Last year production New Haven 300 WSM standard rifle, in a McMillan compact pattern stock, 'swirl pattern 60/40 light blue, white. New Haven Model 70 Classic Super Express .375 H&H with a Leupold M8 3x. Dream setup if you like the .375 H&H. 1958 Featherweight 30-06 with a Leupold 1-4x. 1947 Transition 30-06 with an old Weaver K3:

The .375 was nice; I got it just to see what the fuss was about and ended up selling it because I've got a 9.3x62 that is lighter and does the same job. It was a soft-shooting rifle, though, even with full out 300gr loads.

Nobody said they HAD to be pre-64 70's. This is mine. It has a custom stock on it. It's in .338 Win Mag. It came to me from a very good friend, Crowmagnum. I got the gun with the original box and all paperwork. The original stock that is also mint unused. Dies, brass, bullets and a slew of factory and relaoded ammo. It is one of the better gun deals I've made plus the rifle has real meaning to me.

Joseph Yes, it surprises the hell out of me. It even thru me for a loop the other day when I ran it's pet load across the chronograph too. Seems it has one hell of a fast barrel on it. I'm pretty happy with it to say the least

Not much of a photographer but here is my Model 70. It's standard grade .243 which I understand is somewhat odd. Bought new by a very close friend who used it for deer and groundhogs. It still wears a Leupold k-10 and shoots VERY tight groups! All is correct except the butt plate is aluminum. I have read that this should be steel and the aluminum ones where only used on featherweight models. The collectors I have shown it to say that either would have been used during production. Any additional thoughts from collectors appreciated. BTW previous owner states rifle was never shopped for any reason and is now how it was purchased new. Stock shows some minor marks (nothing deep) from use and the varnish is gone in many areas. Metal finish is still very good. I have struggled recently with refinishing the stock.

Thanks for sharing, that is a neat little rifle.

Here are a few of mine that I happen to have pictures of on my computer Transition .375 special order without a rear sight. 257 Super Grade .22 Hornet, I just love the little round on this big action! Transition 250/3000 Special order Super Grade Carbine. 30/06 target model FYI this one is for sale A 358 that someone in the past bored out to 350 Rem Mag and did a lot of action work to get the round to work andthen put it in a nice looking stock. FYI this one is for sale Ultra Grade Featherweight in .270 Random shot of a couple rifles including a couple M70's. The bottom one is a 300H&H, third from the bottom is not technically a M70 but an FN A3G which is a M70 action, and the second from the top is a New Haven Stainless Featherweight in 308 with a BOSS system on it. The 308 and 300 a 300 are my main hunting rifles.
