Today I took a day away from haggling with cnstruction and insurance paperwork for our reroofing extravaganza to visit a local gun emporium "just to look".
Came across a Ruger #1 375 H&H in like new condition with very good wood on both sides for a black pad #1. Price was right too --just $700. Now I'll have to sell my SS/laminate .375.... I'm slowly replacing all the SS #1s with good wood, when I can find it!
In BSing with a guy there during the sale it turns out he is a serious long range BPCR shooter and has a Ruger Lyman Centennial, like mine, that he uses on the range. Very good contact for when I get mine back with Creedmore sights installed.
Then, the store owner slipped into the back room and came out with an empty Ruger presentatiion case for the Lyman Centennial that he picked up in Tulsa. Mine came w/o a presentation case, so it came home with me.

Doc,
Nope, I found it at a small collectors shop in Warrenton. The owner has a table at the Chantilly Show this weekend.

Used to line in Bealeton, was a regular at Tony's and at Clark's. In fact, One of the counter guys at Clark's used to call me 'Easy Money' They'd save stuff for me to look at before putting it on the racks. Stopped by a couple weeks ago, after a 6 year absence, Tony was at the Fredericksburg show.

old70,
I always wondered where the quality second hand rifles went at Clark's. Only junk made it to their shelves. I figure the staff did not get pad in currency but in guns..... Now I know.

What good used stuff they got was always behind the counter, to the left and right of the door to the back. The rack out on the floor was always the crap. I only bought about a quarter of the stuff they saved, so some of it made it out. There are a couple good guys that work there, and they were always my points of contact. I will have to say that my trip down a couple weeks ago, I was disappointed with the selection. Seems to have slipped a little in the time I was away.

I very seldom go to Clark Brothers anymore. Haven't found much in the way of nice used gun's there for quite a few years. Better selection in my opinion down at Greentop north of Richmond off I-95. Now, they have some nice used guns IMO.

Green Top used to occasionally have some nice stuff, I churned my collection there a couple times. This last time I went, I was appalled, not at the selection, but at the folks handling them. Found a couple nice guns at decent prices, but got sick of being muzzle swept and sighted in on. I used to find the occasional gem at DeGoffs in Mechanicsville, (Pre-64 Winchester 88 in .284 for $550, Sako AII in .222 for $500) but that was years ago, haven't been there since '05.
