9+9+9 plan

Alaska;100+9%=$109
WDC: 100+9%=$109 now add state sales tax that will still be there and you have$109+6..5%+$115.50

What part of consumer math don't you get? The 999 tax will not replace any STATE SALES TAX! It will only add to the existing tax.

Net difference $6.50 either way...don't see this changing shopping habits.

One of us definitely has a problem with math. Apparently you won't drive to another state to save $6.50 today but you will drive to another state to save $6.50 if 9-9-9 is implemented.
Just can't make it up...

Agreed. I am thinking it the long run it would be a good thing.

You'd have different states' citizens paying different amounts into the fed then? Every state would just jack their own tax up to 9% in an effort to let citizens of other states pay their way.

It would be up to each state to negotiate w/ the fed on which service is provided and by whom.

I agree 100% about needing to barter for goods and services. Would it be better for the economy? Dunno. However, I sure think it would be better for society in general. Instead of flipping over a plastic card, you actually get to interact with your friends\family\neighbors, establish long term relationships with those that you barter with, and probably even work side by side with them?

With friends and family, we do alot of "informal" bartering (since heck, we would do it without payback anyways) - but I could see where this would really be good for society in general, if the practice was expanded.

Sorry to get off topic, but this really struck a chord - thanks for posting.
