I'm assuming mostly hilly wooded country without super-long shots:
150gr Barnes Tipped TSX, Winchester cases, Winchester Primers, H4350 worked up to 73gr. If mixed results, switch to Reloader 19.
The bullet will hold together for elk and will be devastating on deer. Velocity around 3250 to 3300 should make that bullet open up pretty quick.

180gr Nosler, ETip, Partition, Accubond, your choice...over 76 or so gr of RL22. I have used this in Fed, Win and Nosler cases without finding any real differences. I like the Winchester mag primer. Velocity should be somewheres above 2900fps, and deadly on anything you might get the chance to hunt in North America. I mention the ETip since recent experience shows that it kills very well, but delivers minimal bloodshot meat, a useful feature.
Imagine your grave on a windy winter night. You've been dead for 70 years. It's been 50 since a visitor last paused at your tombstone..... Now explain why you're in a pissy mood today.

Thanks, I have a ton of viht n-160, and a friend told me that he uses it for his 300 win mag. I can not find any listings for that powder! He said he uses 71.0gr and a 165-168gr bullet. Is this a ok load out of a rem 700. My book lists a load for viht n-165, the bun rate chart has n-160 @ #117 and viht n-165 @ #128. What do you guys think about his load? Thanks Bobby
