folks I have seven grandsons I am going to outfit w/99's, want to start them out with less expensive 99's. looking for a .308 in the A saddle gun (last mod offered) I have a little time to find the younger ones guns, need the .308 for the marine, he is the one I have a hunt lined up for, would be nice to present him with a savage and get him interested in the savage habit. have been looking but have not found an unaltered, let me know if you have anything. thanks "texken austin.rr.com" I am really proud of this young man

I don't think that late model 99 saddle guns qualify as "less expensive 99's". I paid over $600 for mine, and I got a pretty decent deal, albeit it was in pretty nice condition. Never the less, they are great hunting rifles, and I wish you luck in your search.

Walnut, cut checkering, round counter, etc. etc.
If there is any proof of a man in a hunt it is not whether he killed a deer but how he hunted it.

There's a 1950's model 99 chambered in 300 Savage for only $400 on MGO (MichiganGunOwners) board that I saw yesterday. Not 308, but a good price and the 300 is close to the 308. Here's the link: http://www.migunowners.org/forum/showthread.php?t=147595&highlight=SavageGeorge
