I have seated 87 gr. HPBT bullets in 6mm - 06 cases necked down from 25-06 cases to fire form to 6mm - 06 Imp. The bullets seated fine in the cases to be fire formed and they fire formed beautifully. I then neck sized (actually partial sized with the FL 6mm - 06 Imp. die) and attempted to seat the same brand 87 gr. HPBT bullet. I have been unable to seat the bullet into the fire-formed cases without the shoulder collapsing; the neck is being pushed down into the shoulder. I have lubed the bullet before seating and that didnt help. I have ruined several cases and decided to ask for help with this problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Don

Measure the OD of the neck of a loaded round, if you are using a bushing die, the bushing should be approx. 0.002 less than the OD of a loaded round. If you are using the same dies to reload the rounds after fireforming then you may have some misadjustment or the dies are not for an improved round. Also measure the OD of your expander ball. If you happen to not be using an expander ball when you resize the necks, you might be oversizing the neck. I would also check the OD of the bullets. Did you chamfer the necks before trying to seat the bullets?Rick.

Thanks for your post. I have turned the die out a little and they are now seating fine; I guess it was crimping the case before the bullet started to seat.
Thanks again for your help.
