Made the "mistake" of looking on the Shiloh website at their inventory of rifles in stock yesterday. Low and behold, they had one that is nearly identical to what I would have custom ordered, so I contacted my FFL guy, called Shiloh and bought another rifle.
#3 Sporter w/pewter tip and custom bedded forend, 30" hvy bbl, semi-fancy wood, traditional steel shotgun buttplate and barrel sights . . . in 45-90. They won't be able to ship it until Monday, but I should have it by the end of the week.
Now to find and get some brass headed this way. Will start with my typical Lyman 457125 bullet cast 30:1. Any particular quirks to this chambering (ET or EH?) I need to know about? Pretty well versed with the 45-70 but never had a 45-90.
Thanks, Mom. I know you didn't understand my (and our) fascination with these old rifles, but you never said anything to discourage it.
Later . . . Otter

45/90 was the old comp round. They always used a PP slug. Regardless, go heavy on bullet and powder.

You'll like the 45-2.4 or -90. It's a lot like the 45-70 only more of a good thing. I've been shooting one for...ummm...16 years. The 457125 should work admirably but I never used it in mine. I bought an NEI mold that throws a 480 gr. bullet that reminds me a great deal of an elongated Keith type SWC. Great hunting bullet with a nice, wide meplat. As I never used mine for competition I never worked up a target load so I can't offer any suggestions. My hunting load is 80 grs. of GOEX Ctg., .030 Walters Wonder Wad and the aforementioned NEI bullet lubed with SPG. Sure took a lot of game with that load in my Montana Roughrider.

KIK 1.5 has been prooving itself for several folks shooting the 90.

Otter, you're gonna love the rifle. Here's the straight scoop on what you need. Get Starline brass. Great, consistent brass, properly headstamped, and reasonably priced. Load 84 grains of KIK 2f, a thin card wad--.030 or less--and the 457125 Govt. bullet. Light it up with a CCI BR2 primer, and you are in business.
Another killer load is Starline cases and 77 grains of KIK 2f, a card wad and a BR2 primer pushing a 480 grain Lyman flatnosed bullet out of Lyman mold number 457121. This is an incredibly flat shooting, accurate bullet and I have used both it and the Govt. bullet in Africa with good success.
Keep us posted.

Dittos on the Starline brass. Good stuff, and priced fairly.
Have fun with your new rifle.

Yeah, I do . . . whatever it is that swampcritter said. There is a reason I have him on ignore. Even if he wasn't, I would.

Actually 3f is usually cleaner burning.
In a 45-70.
The problem is a 45-90 is a bigger case. It's needs a slower burning powder.
Swampturd would not know that because he's never loaded for a 45-90.
And if he has, he sure as hell was not trying to get good accuracy out of it.

Let's see, Sharpsguy says to use KiK and Swampodor says 3F. I'll get back to y'all just as soon as I did up the picture of him and his doofus hat... BTW, rumor mill has it our own ET's feeling as nervous as a whoreinchurch as Shiloh just contacted him that his 44/90 is ready.... Sweating are we ol' buddy?

ET hears the church bells ringing, all right. That 44-90BN is the Real Deal once you get it dialed in. Anybody have any popcorn? It's almost showtime.

44-90 is the real deal when the shooter gets a handle on the thing. Sounds like Kurt has got his backup and running again, says he's going to Milan with it next week. Cinda couldn't find my rifle yesterday..

The one on the far left is a 44/90 wid a 490g PP slug over 100 g FF Express. We'll see The 45/110 and a 30/06 for comparison.
