You don't have to beat that guy to them. You need to see that guy and lay him down.

Wow great pictures! I was out to camp tonight to check things over. I saw a nice grouse on the way out to the new food plot on foot, let him walk because I was carrying one of those big salt blocks out with me on foot. Jumped a deer between Dusty's stand and Pam's stand. Something is starting to grow in the new food plot. Something cloverish...

Just disked up ground and it was raining when I took the pic so some stuff looks really black I guess.

I'm not sure what to do with this. Thought I'd put it here. At our camp we sit right on the Mississippi/Red River divide. We have a dedicated "pee porch" on the back. It points to the Mississippi watershed. Often we recite, when heading out for a pee, "sending a little treat down to the Gulf". Year 2000. Age - 5. 4

I walked outside the other day and there was a my 3 1/2 yr old in much the same pose, except he was spraying side to side. A thing of beauty! I love having sons! The world is our urinal! Went duck hunting today on the lake. Had about 50 woodies coming right towards me when then decided to turn in an land about 75 yards from me. So I started sneaking along in the reeds...slowly....being sure to make no waves....there they are, I can see a wing here a breast there....they are making a lot of noise, squeeking, splashing...creeping closer. Uh oh, my reeds are petering out. I cant go closer to shore as there are NO reeds there. slow down even more.....DANG, they took off right at the outer limit of range. KERBLAM! KERBLAM! KERBLAM! Still more coming....frantically reload...KERBLAM! KERBLAM! The smell of gunpowder in the air....the echo of KERBLAM! off the trees on the other side of the lake.....and no ducks down. They bested me. Trudge back to Lauren sheepishly. She asks excitedly, "Did you get one? Did you get one?". Uhh, no, Honey, I missed. But still a fun day and a great way to start a workday!

had 18 does coming in to kendra last night, at 300 yards they were a little too far for what she practiced, they were coming in when some road hunters drove all the way into the state game area 1/2 hour before sunset and scared every deer on their way in, including the ones we were watching. then they turned around and left. S.O.F.B. I said. but tomorrow we have permission to hunt on the private land they were coming from. hopefully we have pics tomorrow eve. she was so intent on getting a deer, she kept saying "man there's so many of them" and "honey you can get them from here, you shoot one, I want to bring one home tonight." I told her to wait, there is always another day. I think it was a good lesson and the young patawan, learning she is.

It is not always about bringing home game. If I ever get to that point, one of you bonk me over the head. I have had some great hunts where I didnt bag any game. My hunt this morning was pretty fun without getting any.
She will get her deer I suspect, and to be honest, I think a few trips without getting anything is good for a beginner. It builds anticipation and makes them respect the game when they do get it.

It's pretty cool when the kids get excited about getting stuff.
When Jack and I were bird hunting last week, he was very fired up that dad got one.
Every Sunday at supper, Mom asks the kids what the best part of the weekend is...Jack said "when Dad shot the partridge." I was shocked because usually it's the 4-wheeler ride or campfire. I hope I created a monster.

It sure seems like today is the last of the warm ones. I can hope.
Big Drift, I didn't forget about you either, sorry. I just haven't dug out the stuff from the basement yet.

No worries T, I am semi recuperation mode right now, went to help Gav_Esq pull out his dads dock and decking broke sending my legs between the dock runners and my upper body between the dock and the boat.
Pulled something but good in my back and wrenched my knees pretty good.
Lots of Ibuprofin before this weekend I can tell ya, since both boys are twitchy for chasing ducks again.
