that certain calibers just "quit" at a certain distance.

I watched a buddy of mine shoot Sub MOA groups at 400 yards using his 280 but when we shot at 500 yards it all fell apart.

I have shot my 300 win mag out to 750 yards and the cartridge does well, I don't. I limit myself to 650 yards for that reason (for killing deer).

Any of the accomplished LRH's know at what distance the 300 win mag gives up?

On another note, Have any of you noticed or experienced this: At 100, 200, 300 yards a gun/shooter shoots 1 MOA and then around 350 plus it actually gets better. I consistently shoot smaller groups at 400 yards then I do at 300 yards using my 300 win mag. Go Figure [Linked Image]

Don my 220 Swift will group tighter at 250 yards than it will at 100 yards with the 63 gr Serria bullets. I think it may have someting to do with twist, velocity, and the bullet becoming more stable at a longer distance as it slows down? It does not do that with bullets in the 52 to 55 gr weight range.

DK,
What type of bullets are you shooting? I have had a couple of guns that did the same ting but.. If you shoot long heavy bullets it takes time ( distance ) for them to settle ( stop yawing ) this can affect accuracy greatly.
