Jeeze, Get better man. I actually feel pretty good today, but I have to listen to grizzly bill and take it easy or he'll give me the business.

Kendra got her first deer this evening, a nice big yearling doe.
We were laying in some grass at the edge of a winter wheat field facing west (into the wind). we saw a doe feeding in an adjoining field, then saw one walk into our field about 250 yards away. she thought that was a little far, so we waited and watched him. I made the classic mistake of focusing on the one deer we could see that I missed the 4 does and a buck that walked in from our left at 80 yards. Kendra saw them, whispered deer and gave a slow nod to my left (like a pro). I slowly turned and watched them slowly filter into the field, I pointed out the fork horn buck to be sure she passed on him (its doe only season). she picked the one on the left, I picked the big doe on the right. I told her to get on him, and take her shot. I was on mine and when she shot I jumped a little and shot just over the back of mine, hers flopped instantly, double lung bang flop. she jumped up, I gave her a kiss then we ran out to get it off the field quick. I drug it behind us and settled in again because we still had 2 tags left. we wait about an hour and I tell her she can make the call when to quit (we still had PLENTY of light) she told me she was ready to go, and I told her we could wait another hour because deer were still coming out in the lower fields. 5 mins later mine walked out at 250 yards. I looked at her and asked "you still want to go"? she told me to shoot it, then we can go. I watched for a bit and she told me to shoot already, so I picked up the rifle, settled in, and Bang, flop 2 deer down. we loaded them up, stopped at the land owners to say our thanks for letting us hunt and headed home. they are hanging in the garage and I'm enjoying a cool one. tomorrow the work begins. talk about a perfect first deer though. lots of action, lots of animals with the deer and turkey and mule deer. she was/is so Proud she won't let up on how I shot a button buck (yet again) and she took a perfect freezer pleaser. but thats ok, I'm proud of her.

LOl I will
we were both using .243 shooting a 70 gr BT, pushing it at 3100 fps. I don't care what people say about the ballistic tip, they flat out kill antelope and does.

Congrats on the deers. Hers is bigger lol! The oats are coming up pretty good on the new food plot. The little guy and I went to the cabin to see if we could get him a grouse with his .22, no birds last night though. We had a deer blow at us by Dusty's stand, seeing more tracks now. We also cut and loaded some firewood for home. For Dusty:

thanks guys, hers is definitely bigger, mine had little growths on its head. there were two of them right in front of the ears, almost on the forehead. they felt boney too, and it had a little wiener, odd for a doe. hey at least I can enter him in the dink-a-thon

Nice job Ryan and Kendra. Ya got yer winter meat now! I think I see the start of a tradition in those pics....a kiss for every kill???
Ducks bested me again today. They fly out too far into the lake. Oh well, it is fun going.

I hope not. It's a deer camp thread. only 24 days away. Supposed to be making funny noises and not smell quite right.

And Ryan, don't feel bad. It takes a darn good shot to shoot little targets.
