Not sure semi-autos are easily welcome in Africa but I found the concept pretty cool.

The 9.3x62 would probably be more pleasant to fire! grin

Hi Guys,

I have heard and seen some BAR 338 transformed (painstakely) so but first Garand i heard about.
A late friend of me (crab is real s..t) had one in 9,3x62, that was 30 years ago. That old workhorse, forgotten on our soil in 44/45 or may be a bit latter, was as reliable as an old Singer sewing machine. Ate the 285grs 9,3 bullets as it was doing with the GI 30-06 before modification....

I'm going to hunt whitetails with my 375 Ruger African, with a 280gr lead gas checked bullet at about 2000 fps. I was thinking the oal and straight wall would make it feed better. Should hold 5 down, max for hunting with in Maine with an autoloader.

I never was disappointed with 300 grains NP and SAF @ 2400 fps, even on young roe deers. The .375 is really a mutli-purpose round, accurate, pleasant to shoot and efficient killer.

Yes i mean the M1 semi auto Garand rifle, in 9,3x62 and was flawless, when my friend passed away i don't know what his wife did with his firearms, that Garand was lost, too bad would have given her good price...I also met 7400 Rem transformed in 9,3, lot of work but except for the f...g mag they were not so bad.

Have good night GV, going to bed, too much computer work today, my eyes are tired. In two days they will rest in Thuringia Forest looking for stags and boars...

what a perfect idea! As a PH I'd have loved one! Is the Garand gas operated or recoil operated?

Heavy 30.06 loads will bend the operating rod of a Garand. Not sure how long you could expect one to last firing 458WM.
