I'm going to start putting in for tags/points in Wyoming again for elk now that the dust is starting to settle in my household. I have a good bud that I grew up with living in Cody,WY. I don't need a record bull but a nice one if I'm going to make the trip. What units near (relatively speaking) Cody will get me on a decent bull that are open to the public? My buddy has been out of the elk game a year or so as he has been chasing a trophy muley, so far with no luck
OR should I put in for a deer tag and go muley hunting?

Drawing a bull tag in Cody is basically like winning the lottery. Mulie tags are not so tough as I have had good luck drawing one as I have again this year. Cold weather is when to hunt there or up in the rim rock. I should be there for the last week in one of the drainages up near the Park. Alot of grizzlie there and we deal with them almost every trip. Great town and not crowded at all. Good luck.

Thanks, maybe I will just go for a mulie. It would be easier to pack out anyhow. I do like Cody as well. I was there a few years ago at my buddies wedding. Hung out and went to the Buffalo Bill museum and checked out the cool old guns, drove out to yellowstone, looked (oogled) some elk and mule deer and ended the day at the Silver Dollar with some beers and bull nuts. Yup, they aint too bad if you just man up and get over it.

Plenty of good "general" elk areas in and around cody.
Good success drawing too.
