New Ruger LH SS Hawkeye arrived worked up some trial loads with IMR 4831 and 100 gr Hornady Int. Never loaded for the 25-06 and need some suggestions? Have lots of cup & core 100 - 120 gr bullets.

In the early 1970's, used .25-06 on 14 head of deer with 100gr Hornady pre-Interlocks. From 60yds to 300yds, all were instant stops and never recovered a single bullet, all pass throughs. Never tried an end-on or neck shot. Used IMR4831 at the time and my loads chronographed 3375fps. Most cup & cores are even tougher now. A TTSX or GMX might be handy in case you run into something tougher than deer.

kk, Alliant says 53grn of R17 on their site, but I would start at 50. I got up to 53 pushing 100g Speers in a 25" Lilja at a whopping 3500fps avg, but it was a max load in said rig. If you are looking for speed with 100s, R17 is definitely an option.

I use 56.5 gr RL-22 and 100 gr Interlocks with CCI 200 primers. It worked well in a Ruger I had and still works well in the MRC 1999/26" Lilja I had built.

I shoot 56g of R#17, Win brass, Win primer, 100g Speer BTSP or 100g Hornady Interlock at 3400+ fps, tiny groups. The 100g Nosler partitions are also very accurate with this load.

I've had good success with 117 gr Sierra Boattails (1630s), either RE17 or IMR 4381, and Winchester Large rifle primers. I started both powders around 50 gr. or so and worked up.

I just lucked into a weatherby vanguard just wondering how the 100gr balistic tip would hold up on deer.

Both my 25-06's shoot the 110 Accubonds well. Remington Varmint Special likes 54.2 grains of IMR 4831, Fed 215 primer, 3260 FPS. Old Sako likes 51 grains of 4350. Have had good luck with the Accubonds on Whitetail and a couple Pronghorn.

kkalska:

All good suggestions above.

Norma MRP powder worked well in my 25/06 for the 75-90 grain bullets. I had great accuracy with the 75 and 90 grain Sierra (varmints).

I used IMR 4831 with the 120 Nosler Partitions and Hornady Interlocks, but lots of newer, perhaps even better powders have come along for the 25/06.

This cartridge does a lot more than it should, and with the copper bullets it is outstanding. You will enjoy it.

I've got two of them. One shoots 100gr Sierra and H4831sc and the other is 115gr Nosler BT with RL-19. Never could get RL-22 to work well for me.

Somewhere around 49gr of IMR4350 seems to be a sweet spot for 117/120gr bullets.

Every 25-06 I have owned has loved about 57 grains of RL22 with a 100 grain bullet and magnum primer. Wonderful accuracy and velocities pushing 3400 fps.

Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!
